Baptism

Yesterday, I had the great joy of watching my firstborn be baptized, and I can honestly say it was a moment of peace and pride I won't soon forget.

For several years, the hubby and I have been mentors for the 7th and 8th graders at our church as they go through Confirmation. And since we considered those kids our collective "first," we thought it would be lovely to have Baby Girl baptized on Confirmation Sunday. Alas, the timing didn't exactly work, since that service will be jam-packed next weekend, so we selected the next best date--which just so happened to be Reformation Sunday, a day of great celebration within the Lutheran church.

The music was wonderful (trumpets sounding to "A Might Fortress"), red was the color of the day, and Baby Girl was in fine form. It was such a blessing to be surrounded by friends and family for the eventful day, and I was filled with such joy when my child not only withstood the water on her head without crying, but then resounded with a happy squeak! at just the right moment, when the Pastor officially welcomed her into the family of God.

And then I focused on that joy to help drown out the shame of hauling everyone back to the house and serving them Babe's Fried Chicken.

Don't judge until you've eaten it.

I'm pretty sure everybody was just fine with me not cooking.

The big moment, with the Pastor, the hubby, Baby Girl and I--along with my dear, dear, wise and lovely friend, Lisa, and the hubby's dear, dear, wise, and lovely friend, Bobby. Otherwise known as the Godparents :)

P.S. I would normally ask peeps' permission before posting photos (sorry friends and family), but I figure everybody will forgive me, just this once.
