Chuck, Drop & Flatten

As Chica asserts her--let's go ahead and call them--"opinions" regarding certain matters these days, she can get a bit theatrical.

And while I certainly don't condone any theatrical behavior whatsoever (and, in fact, just go about my business anytime she implements said behavior), I must admit that the hubby and I sometimes get a chuckle out of it (behind Chica's back, of course).

So without further ado, I share with you:

The Chuck, Drop & Flatten

Step 1: Chica chucks something (usually a pacifier) as far away from her person as she can.

Don't know why she feels the need to do this, but anytime something upsets her, she must toss.

Paci, necklace, cracker...if it's on her body or within her reach, it must fling.

Sadly, I do not have a picture of said chuck, as it's a lightning-fast move that's next to impossible to catch on film.

Step 2: Chica drops it like it's hot.

And this time, I don't mean an object, I mean her tiny little body.

She just plants right down. Wherever she is. Immediately. (Though I should note that she sometimes backs away first, and her swift, backwards moonwalk is hilarious--and impressive.)

This happens within nanoseconds after the chuck.

Step 3: Chica flattens like a pancake.

This move sometimes takes a few moments, as she's smart enough to survey her surroundings (Wood? Tile? Carpet?) before going kersplat.

The kersplat is Mama's favorite move.

But alas, it lasts only moments before she's up and at it again.

Now, I know some people will read this and go: uh-oh; terrible two's approaching, and perhaps there's something to that.

But...I firmly believe that many behavioral issues are self-fulfilling prophesies of sorts. So if I speak around my child or about my child regarding her negative behavior, it just might lend more importance to it than it deserves.

Call me naive, but I do believe it.

So for now, I'll continue to ignore the Chuck, Drop & Flatten (but snicker behind closed doors), and be grateful that for the majority of any given day, my kiddo is a normal 19-month-old with ups and downs and joy bursting out of her little being.
