Though she's thrilled to the point of bursting (literally--she shakes with excitement and smiles like a fool) if he calls or, more notably, when I hear the garage door and tell her that he's home, she suddenly retracts when she actually sees him, and then takes a bit to warm up.
It's a move we've dubbed The Shun to poke fun at her freeze-out (I mean, all girls want to be No. 1--even before work, right??) but honestly, it's a bit heartbreaking.
:(
Poor Daddy, working all day to provide for his family, just wants a shower of love when he arrives home, and dang it if he doesn't always get it!
Luckily, we've employed a few devices to help out on weekdays--FaceTime calls so she can see him, lunch dates when possible, and a little coaching on my part before he walks in the door so she doesn't scare off. It all seems to be helping.
And then there's the best medicine of all--renewing the bond like crazy over the weekend. And this past one, we kicked it off right by dressing up for the main man in our life and meeting him for a nice dinner out as soon as he was off work.
The food, the time out together, and that lovely the-weekend-is-just-starting feeling did just the trick. And from sun-up to
sun-down on Saturday and Sunday, Daddy got his fill of love and adoration from his baby girl.
So here's hoping we can continue to manage The Shun while it hangs around--'cause Daddy's need all the cuddles 'n hugs they can get!
