Crystallized Snowflakes

It was time for Kiwi Crate fun today :)

And I'm sooooo relieved to report that this month's project was simple and lovely, in comparison to the Claw Challenge (and ensuing calamity--ha) we tackled a couple weeks ago.

(Don't get me wrong--the girls totally luuuuurved the claw, but another detail-driven project back-to-back would've been tough!)

So here it was: an ice theme. And the project we did today was crystallized snowflakes. Super fun, and easy enough that Chicklet was full-on game, too.

We just had to mix some Epsom salt with water, and a pinch of regular salt.

Then we added some blue food coloring for kicks, so it would show up when we painted. And then I let the girlies go nuts.

And look--I managed to sneak a hair bow in Chicklet's hair while she was distracted! Ha.

They were such concentrated painters. They really love anything involving paint brushes. It's their fave.

And I'm so impressed with Chicklet's accurate grip on the brush. Even Chica still does the two-fingered grip on most of her drawing projects, just for greater steadiness.

I mean, just look at the side-by-side preciousness! Really makes me look forward to the day they'll both be able to accomplish fun, involved crafts :) And brother, too, someday! We're not gender exclusive here!

We set the snowflakes aside to dry--with spoons to keep 'em flat.

And here they were a few hours later!

It was hard to get a good pic that showed the tiny, web-like crystals that flared around the salt pieces, but they're there. Pinky promise.

Chica was pleased as punch.

And Chicklet gave it a passing glance--ha.

Then Chica asked to hang one here...

And the other one high on the Valentine tree where Chicklet couldn't destroy it ;)

Tomorrow we might do the other half of the ice project that involves actual ice cubes we made in advance today.

Happy Tuesday (that feels like Wedneday), peeps!
