Leaf Trinket Dishes

Okay, peeps...tiiiiime for some catch-up posts!

A few of these have been saved as drafts for awhile, so let’s push ‘em out into the World Wide Web to see if they can walk on their own. :)

First one...

So, a few weeks ago, while wandering the aisles of Target (a super-rate occurrence, I know), we found these fun little freebie project-idea cards.

So we snagged ‘em—along with any extra supplies we needed (though truth be told, we already had most of them)—and we’ve started working our way through them.

The first one we tackled was a fun clay mold leaf project:

We started by “borrowing” a few leaves from trees on our street. We got a variety, in case one type seemed to work better than another.

Then we busted out our dry clay mold, and smooshed (technical term) the leaf into the surface...

And then set about the process of cutting around it...

Ultimately, we decided it was sort of more efficient to cut with scissors around the leaf shape...

And who doesn’t lurv scissors???

It took a few tries—and a few rounds of testing which side of the leaf was better pressed into the clay—but eventually, we had a handful of beauties that we carefully folded up a bit to be reshaped into a rounded edge.

Then came the hard part.

Waiting.

For a couple o’ days until they were dry enough to paint.

But it was worth the wait, because you know how much my nuggets love their paint.

Little Man painted his plane mold we made along with the leaves. :)

Another day or so later, look how lovely!

Voila!

One project down, many more to go!
