Our Farewell Tour—The Pool!

Okay, m’peeps.

I promised something much more uplifting than yesterday’s whiny post. And uplifting is what you’re gonna get!

‘Cause it doesn’t get any more happy, happy, joy, joy than...

Pool time!

Indoor pool time, naturally. ;) Just to clarify, ha.

I only had the idea yesterday afternoon when I was feeling crappy—yet again—for hauling the kiddos on another airport drop-off for Daddy, after a not-so-entertaining day that involved shopping for appliances. Boooo.

It seems that our family time is one of two extremes these days. Either full of guilt and home/moving-related errands, or wild fun and excursions to make up for said guilt, ha.

And since Chica was off of school today for the holiday, I decided it was time to insert some major fun—whilst simultaneously saying farewell to our beloved city facility that we’ve enjoyed so, dang, much, since it opened less than two years ago.

To say the kiddos were ECSTATIC to be there would be the understatement of the century, ha. We really didn’t get our usual fill of swimming last summer, due to Chicklet’s poor leg injury and cast, so I feel like this year, we’re going to be making up for lost time!

I mean, the smiles alone went SO FAR in helping me through a really rough afternoon and evening. So I’m doubly grateful for them.

And speaking of grateful, and perhaps getting our fill of swimming this year...

One fun tidbit to share about the new casa that brings me joy and fear and angst and trepidation, ha: we will have a pool in the backyard!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned much about the property itself, but it’s situated on nearly an acre of land, which is kind of wild and fun for us—not to mention a definite change of pace from our tiny backyard that we currently have, that was barren of pretty much anything when we moved in.

The backyard itself is two-tiered, with the pool on the first tier, surrounded by a rod-iron gate. And the second tier is much more wild (and I mean that in terms of not-exactly-landscaped, ha), because it backs up to this nature preserve that’s within the neighborhood. And that second tiered area is also surrounded by another rod-iron gate. Which is pretty awesome, and means the are could have a lot of potential if we ever wanted to utilize the space more fully.

These pictures from the real estate listing are much more glamorous than it actually looks in real life, ha (hello, colorful sunset staging). But isn’t that how real estate picture always look?? ;)

The important thing is that it will be a cool and different vibe for us—and I think one that we will really come to enjoy.

Despite my kiddos’ love for the water, I never imagined ourselves as a pool-owning family. It just sort of happened by accident during this move, since all but two or three out of dozens of listings we explored had a pool. So we’ll certainly make the most of it!

And also, make the most of any and all security measures to ease this nervous Mama’s fears. Special sensors on doors and in the pool. And a whole bunch of other gadgets I’ve been researching. Not to mention ongoing swim lessons!

So, here’s to a fun, splashy outing that we so needed today. And to some future splashy adventures in our very own backyard.

Wild, I tell ya!

Happy Monday, peeps.
