Our First HOME Swim!

So...if this doesn’t scream Summer Is Coming, then nothin’ does!

I mean, what an awesomesauce action shot for our very first HOME SWIM!

I mean...seriously.

Tonight, we had such a fun bit of spontaneous family time.

This was so not on the agenda for the evening.

But after our early dinner, the kiddos were hanging in the front yard with me while I planted some shrubs, and by the time I finished, we were all stinky and yucky and wilted.

Then—lo and behold—Daddy pulled into the driveway, and when I told him to follow us to the backyard to let the kiddos put their feetsies in the water, as promised, he said: why don’t we just swim???

I mean—sure, it was already ten minutes past bath time, and I had to round up all our swim gear in a hurry, since we hadn’t planned on christening the pool until this weekend.

But it was so worth it.

(The wide shot of my action girlies, hehe.)

To say they were freaking excited is a major understatement.

Silly Daddy thought he was going to get away without joining in, since he was straight home from work. But I gave him the option of putting his swimsuit on, or getting pulled in fully clothed.

Luckily, he made the right call. ;)

I know without a shadow of a doubt that this will be one of the biggest positives of our new life here in SA.

It took some effort to get the pool swim ready, as the previous owners weren’t living here for some months prior to the sale.

We’re on a major learning curve here, but we have a great pool warranty from the company that built it, and another separate pool service contractor that helped us get up to speed with our very own Pool School, hehe.

Unfortunately, we ended up having to drain the pool and power wash it to truly spiff it up, due to some acid buildup that couldn’t be handled chemically.

Ewwww.

Look closely and you can see the technician power-washing in the pic below. We were spying from the playroom window, hehe.

But—look! All fresh! And, yes, it’s actually a greenish-grey pool on purpose! Our neighbor thought it was algae, because I guess it’s not so standard for one to be this color, but heeeeere she is (because I feel like our pool is a lady).

Soooo thrilled to have this amazing family outlet.

And soooo relieved to have found a swim instructor, finally, this week, who will be coming to the house to work with the kiddos.

Because as much as I’m grateful to have this pool, I cannot even begin to describe the angst and worry it causes me, with three young kiddos.

We’re taking precautions—a security camera with grid lines sensors to monitor the area, an extra lock (way up high, out of kiddo reach) for the patio door, and a buoy type of sensor thing to live in the pool (that we haven’t really gotten in a groove with).

But still.

It’s a pool. And my Mama heart lies awake at night trying to make sure we’re teaching our kiddos enough respect for the water.

So...this will be an ongoing battle for us to balance the fun with the safety, but it’s not a choice. It’s a MUST.

Can’t wait to see what kind of swim and splash routine we fall into.

Summer. Is. Coming.

(Ah, Game of Thrones, I MISS YOU madly, already).

Over and out.
