HOTLANTA 2019: Day 3 (Lake Oconee)

Holy goodness.

Day 3, Lake Oconee (hehe, I’m rhyming).

Lake Oconee, Lake Oconee, Lake Oconee.

So...the last few days in HOTLANTA, with my family, celebrating older bro and his 10K, and really loving it up for the 4th of July have been wonderful.

And, also...the hubby and I collapsed into bed last night (this morning?) at 1:30 a.m., after our 10-mile day and soaking through our clothing twice over, and kinda sorta felt more exhausted than when we began this vacay, ha.

Which is totally what a lot o’ vacations and wonderful life experiences/memories are all about.

But then this morning, we had a yummy brunch together, and then bid adieu to my extended family...

and drove 90 minutes outside the city to Lake Oconee, where things are just paradise in pine-strewn perfection. And we totally flipped a switch to a whole different second half of this trip.

Just...deep sigh.

Now.

Before this vacation, I’d never once heard of this place.

But the hubby—who is a golf enthusiast and plots the day he’s fortunate enough to attend the Masters in Augusta—had it on his radar, due to its close proximity (about an hour away) to the tournament.

So...when we committed to HOTLANTA, we tacked on this blessed few days before returning home.

And, again...DEEP SIGH.

Truly, madly, deeply, I feel like we’ve just stepped into a completely different world, and I’m walking around in a daze, feeling so, dang blessed that we get a couple of days here.

No joke...you literally open our patio door and walk straight into this pine wonderland and into this hammock.

This gorgeousness is so brand-new to us, and yet feels so familiar in many ways. And I think I’ve finally pinned it down.

It’s like if you took...

Some of Big Cedar, in Branson...
Then throw in bits of Pinehurst, in North Carolina...
And a hefty dose of Mohonk, or someplace similar in the Catskills of New York (think, Dirty Dancing)...
And then just a splash of anyplace tropical you love.

Add to that a major chunk of its own special sauce, and you get this place.

It’s just...deep sigh.

Who woulda thunk it, but my Chicklet is the one who’s not so keen on what might be swimming around in the lake water, hehe. She was very happy to be in the canoe, then on the sand and straight to the pool. ;) And Chicklet was in mad love with swimming out to the giant, inflatable lake slide! Little Man was happy-go-lucky with whatevs.

This was walking in to dinner. Wet suits, no shoes, gorgeous views (and breeze). Heavenly.

Man, oh man, oh man, am I glad we went with our familial gut to spring for these special few days out here at the end of this trip.

I’m less than one day in, and I can’t rave enough.

Hope everyone is enjoying the start of a gorgeous, post-holiday weekend.

Over and out.

:)
