Tuesday DO-Day: Retro Projects!

Okay, peeps.

Let’s get real, here.

We’re now officially in the second half of July, which means our lazy days of summer are in full effect ‘round  these parts.

My babies and I are living and loving these two, slow weeks we’ve got in between our return from HOTLANTA, and a grandparent trip to Oklahoma towards the end of next week.

So when it came time to think through Tuesday DO-Day options, everything fell under the category of too hot or too much effort. And I wanted neither, ha.

I just wanted rest.

And quality time—with a side of laziness, of course.

And clothing optional (well, I mean real world clothing optional. We rocked pajamas all the live long day, thankyouverymuch.)

So...in lieu of a Tuesday DO-Day that sent us out into the heinous heat of the world, we stayed in (for a second day in a row, mind you), and busted out two fun project/toys that are both of the retro variety, and also both of the procrastination variety.

As in, I’ve owned each for about a year and somehow always decided against busting them out, ha.

But not today!

Enter...the lite brite!

Everyone’s favorite peg-filled fave. :)

I think I was resisting this one because of the pegs. But honestly, they were no biggie! They stayed contained to the closet and were so not a big deal.

And—fun fact—I feel like the pegs of old that we used  for the lite brites of my childhood would totally fall out of you tilted the work surface too vertically, yes? Am I making this up??

But the new-fangled lite brite pegs have these rubbery-ish plastic pegs (technical term), so they stay put even if you dump it over. Woohoo!

My kiddos have always gotten a kick out of projects that require us to huddle up in a dark closet with some sort of light source (they would own and play with every flashlight in the world, if I let them, ha. In fact, it’s become kind of a traditional of mine to gift a variety of one each year as a stocking stuffer), so this was a winner. Glad I finally got over my peg-phobia and busted it out. :)

And next up in the we-all-know-and-love-from-our-childhood category: the Spirograph!

Though, technically, we did this one in the morning and the lite brite fun in the afternoon, hehe.

Also...am I the only one that thinks my kitchen chair looks like a Spirograph drawing??? ;)

Again, I was hesitating with this one, but it wasn’t exactly because of all the parts, it was because I suspected there would be fighting between my nuggets when they were forced to take turns, ha.

But, no—they were actually pretty great. Probably because I also busted out some chalk markers to keep the complaining to a minimum when they had to wait their turn.

They were surprisingly more engaged that I suspected at the beginning. I thought they’d lose interest as we got the hang of it, but they seemed pretty intrigued. Enough to keep at it, even though they really needed my assistance to keep the circles in place to get the shapes to turn out as intended.

And, luckily, they happily diverted to free-hand drawing when their turn was up. :)

Between these fun diversions and a new learning outlet via the iPad that I’ll share soon, we had enough activity to justify all of our television viewing, hehe.

So, basically...all in a balanced, summer day of work. ;)

Happy Tuesday, peeps!

Over and out.
