The Great Wind-Down Of Soccer

For the love of all that is holy, how do the weekends manage to fly by so fast, and manage to stay so packed with loads o’ activities and to-dos???

Well...aside from grocery shopping and church and yard work and errands and honey-dos, I’m pretty sure one of the major contributors to our weekend busyness over the past 6-8 weeks has been...soccer. That glorious—but also a little painful—half-day commitment o’ ours. ;)

So...here’s a short synopsis of our first ever season:
  1. The girlies really dig it.
  2. The girlies also sort of loathe it when it’s hot.
  3. I sort of dig it.
  4. But really, really loathe the heat.
  5. Today (October 19th), the high was 93 degrees.
  6. Did I mention the heat-hate?
So...basically, where we net out on the whole soccer thing is that we’ve enjoyed it, but the heat is rather brutal, ha. So it will be nice to complete the season after one more game, and have a break—ironically, during the cooler months—before we likely sign back up for more soccer fun next year! :)

All heat complaining aside...as it’s been a teeny-tiny-tad cooler the past couple of weeks, we’ve seen the enjoyment levels ramp up. The girlies both have a bit more energy and stamina on the field, and also have the capacity to enjoy the connectivity with their teammates a little more, as well.

And with the temperatures just slightly less-than-boiling, I’ve had a better opportunity to try and connect with a couple of the parents so that hopefully, post season, we can continue to develop some budding little friendships.

So here’s to soccer being everything we hoped. A really organized, manageable season, with a stellar and enthusiastic coach (we love you, Daddy), who helped the girlies seamlessly enter their first group sporting activity with zero reservations.

Win/win/win/win/win.

And speaking of win...Chica was awarded the weekly sportsmanship medal today. :)

This soccer organization does such a great job of trying to work in various lesson points each week—teamwork, listening, hustle, enthusiasm—to keep the kiddos motivated. The idea is that each child should receive an award once throughout the season, and as the coach’s kiddos, our girlies have waited patiently for their tiny spotlight.

I have a strong feeling our Chicklet will end the season with her own medal, too. :)

Happy Weekend, peeps!

Over and out.
