Drive-Thru Cuties

Oh my stinking heavens.

The hubby and I spent the weekend tackling a long overdue laundry organization project. I’m talking cabinetry and power tools, and 13 hours of hard labor assembling. And finishing after 1:30 a.m. OYE.

I mean, by the time we picked up the dangerous debris and showered and wound down for the night (morning?), it was 3 a.m. And that kiddo wake-up call just a few hours later was a bit painful.

We managed our Sunday routine of breakfast, church, and grocery shopping. And then a bunch of other around-the-house to-dos. But needless to say, we were exhausted.

Luckily, it turned out to be the perfect time to indulge Chica in this little round of pretend drive-thru that she wanted to re-create based on a video she’d seen.

She made fake money, a basic menu, and brought down all of our play food and dishes, and we took turns going out onto the patio outside the kitchen windows ordering or serving.

It was low-key adorableness, and honestly, they were so wildly entertained (and we mostly got the sit), that I see this being a regular thing.

Okay...two final side notes:

First: in case you can’t tell from our drive-thru pics, it was a glorious day. And despite our exhaustion, we had the best dinner outside at one of our nearby restaurants that had a beautiful little bluff area for the kiddos to play. And Chicklet ran into one of her little classmates and was just in hog heaven.

Second, and last: While Daddy and I were assembling laundry room cabinetry yesterday, Chica spent some time in her room, reading for fun. She reads constantly, but it’s probably the first time she’s read a full-on chapter book without us around, and actually retained the story (she often just reads through to practice words but doesn’t think much about the story), and she was beaming every fifteen minutes or so, when she would run down and give me a chapter recap. Amen, halleluiah for READING for the joy of it!

Okie dokie...off to stare at the backs of my eyelids.

Pics of our laundry room craziness another day.

Over and out.
