Doodles & Spooky Project Breaks

Well, m’peeps.

We managed to conquer our Monday with relatively little angst. And even fit in some craft time, a (somewhat rainy) bike ride, a Starbucks hot chocolate run, and all of our school work—without tears or crankiness.

Woohoo!

In fact, over the past couple of weeks—especially since wrapping up the girlies’ standardized testing, that was a little tricky on schedules and a bit challenging to conduct at home—I feel like we’ve settled even further into our school day routine. (Though, that by no means equates to easy days, at least we know what to expect at all times.)

Hard to believe we’re in Week 6, and before you know it, we’ll be wrapping up the first nine weeks, and officially through one quarter is the school year.

Some of the smaller, unnecessary Zoom check-ins or busy work breaks have been eliminated by the teachers (not that there were many to begin with), so our schedules are even more streamlined, and we’re often able to find small bits of time where all kiddos are on some sort of lunch or “recess” break, or have already completed the assignment for a certain subject and can take a few minutes to run around.

And that means more time for creativity, project style. :)

We are truly just project, project, project, nearly every day, of late. With some happy doodles thrown in. And often, some school-assigned artwork, or science projects, as well.

Which adds up to a decent chunk of time spent creating and learning, and having fun while doing it. And that is one of the major silver linings of this crazy, virtual school year we’re powering through.

Today’s project brain break was a simple one, but a huge hit. Halloween creature masks. :)

We colored these around 10:30 this morning, and my crazies spent a decent chunk of the day thereafter, wearing their masks, tehe.

And, yes, yes we did officially spook the interior of the house this weekend. :)

And the kiddos are officially dining on their Halloween plates—and utilizing their spooky yogurt bowls. ;)

Another fun little project we did on Sunday:

Haven’t utilized popsicle sticks in awhile. So versatile, and the finished products were adorable.

And, lastly...two days last week, we utilized our collective school day breaks for doodle time. Woohoo! There’s a plethora of fun, spooky doodles through our favorite YouTube drawing resource, and I have high hopes of tackling a decent chunk of them in the coming month—even if we only manage one or two a week, it’ll be something!

Anywho.

With so much still up in the air in terms of when and if my kiddos will be returning to in-person school anytime soon, we’re just trying to lean into the advantages of being home, as much as possible.

And creative and silly school breaks at home is definitely the best advantage of all.

Happy Monday, peeps.

Over and out.
