The Productive CHAOS Of Last Week

Well, peeps.

I’m not gonna lie: even this weekend has felt jam-packed (ahem, Little Man’s birthday) following a really busy Monday-Friday, so I’m not feeling super rejuvenated heading into our seventh week of distance learning.

Oye.

Although there’s some comfort to knowing that was always going to be the case. Because for awhile now, I’ve looked at the calendar and our list of to-dos—combined with the daily rigors of virtual schooling—and realized it was going to be go-go-go until around mid October. And even then, it won’t likely let up, but we’ll have a couple of half-days of school as a pseudo Fall Break, and I’ll take any tiny breather I can get!

Until then, we’re just gonna power through, try and maintain our sanity, and appreciate the small moments of accomplishment or creativity, instead of focusing on all the mass chaos and stress.

On that note...I think I’m gonna do some special posts this coming week. One devoted to each kiddo and all the things I love about them at this exact moment in time. Because it’s always a good idea to get in the weeds of love and gratitude whenever things are feeling overwhelming. And despite the stress and uncertainty of these times, the major bonus is a lot of concentrated family time. And my family is magical. So now is a good time to ramble about all the love there. :)

Until then...some highlights from last week. All things that could have been posts in and of themselves, but there wasn’t time!

First up: Chica and her Matisse art project for school. Chicklet and Little Man completes them, as well, and really enjoyed the biographical video on Matisse. Totally up their alley.

A science project involving the changing properties of matter. We took crayons from a solid to a liquid (gluing them to a canvas and then heating them with a blow dryer until they melted). Bonus—it made a gorgeous piece of artwork in the process. :) I’m already envisioning all sorts of other creative art along these lines.

Halloween vampire breaks always help a girl concentrate. ;)

And what’s better than completing your reading assignment at home?? Completing it whilst snuggling and lounging in bed. The kiddos really loved Chicklet’s assigned book of the week: Bedhead. Might have to buy it to have at home for always. And would you just look at Chicklet’s happy-happy smile?? The best.

We had a difficult hour of math homework for Chica on Tuesday when she was completing a lengthy monetary lesson plan. Several pages of problem after problem involving dollars and coins. Always multi-step challenges and she got angsty for a bit. Until we busted out her actual piggy bank for visuals, spread out on the floor, and got in a complete groove.

Little Man was a little grumpy in this pic—hilariously, for the exact reason I’m about to brag on him. ;) Basically, in the Spring, he was still utilizing and not-great pencil grip, so I purchased these awesome butterfly grippers for his pencils to help correct it, and we’ve been utilizing them for the past seven months, and...voila! He’s holding his pencil like a champ, now!

He still loves the butterfly grippers (because they’re easier, obviously, ha), so he was trying to be annoyed at me for taking it away—until he realized he was a total champ without it. Victory!

And this last fun moment from our crazy week involved building boats as part of Chica’s sink or swim science experiment. Naturally, all three of my crazies wanted to participate, ha.

I adore this pic below, because Chicklet’s distracted by the moon! We were outside just after dinner, so the moon was already out, and her science learning that very day was centered around the lunar cycle and why the moon looks different from Earth throughout the month. So she was pumped to notice and analyze the moon cycle. Talk about learning in action! ;)

I love how we totally had to redo this whole sailing experiment the next morning when Chica was dressed in actual clothes because she wanted to be able to share the video with her class and didn’t want to be in her pajamas, ha. Virtual schooling problems, I tell ya.

Grateful for ALL of the learning we’re accomplishing each week, but, man, would it be nice to have it 10% less insane-in-the-membrane for a few days.

Wishful thinking, amiright??

A girl can dream.

Stay healthy, stay sane, peeps.

Over and out.
