South Padre Island 2021–Day 1

Well, peeps.

We made it a bit further south for our socially distanced little Spring Break adventure.

Just a five hour drive and a clean area that’s not at all overrun right now. Comfortable, familiar (though I haven’t been since high school), and someplace we might have overlooked if air travel was easier in this Covid world.

We rented a condo right on the beach, and that condo ended up just perfect for our needs and as clean and well-stocked as the adorable pictures through VRBO. And grandparents joined in for the vacay fun. So, all good things.

Though it was a bit of a mental and logistical battle to get geared up for this fun beach escape that we planned back in late January (before we ever had any idea about our winter storm disaster that would turn our house and life a bit topsy turvy), it’s so lovely to see my babies thriving in the sand and surf.

They’re happy, happy, joy, joy to be out in the sunshine and elements for a beautiful change of pace. And walking out the door and straight over the dune to the beach is as easy breezy as it gets.

Hard to imagine that this time last year, we were in San Diego, oblivious to the fact that school would never reopen for the year, and the world would be in lockdown within days of our return.

And harder still to imagine that this time the year before that, we were closing up our house in McKinney and hunkering down in Tulsa for a week before making the tough move to SA.

This time of year is definitely starting to trigger feelings of life upheaval for me, after three consecutive springtimes of a lot of change and uncertainty.

But I suppose springtime has always centered around renewal—even if that renewal necessitates change—so that’s the feeling I’m going to focus on.

The cell service is a bit spotty in our rental, but I’ll try to post a handful of pics before I crash with my book and my laziness.

Happy Tuesday, peeps.

Over and out.

Three generations of handsome men. :)

My boy and his wave jumping action shots are some of my favorite pics of the day.
