A Solid Summer Day

Well, peeps.

We really packed a lot into the first 10 days of our Summer Break!

A Nanna visit, The Riverwalk, The Botanical Garden, a play date, a dance recital, some swim time, a bookstore excursion. Not to mention, finally putting together the last of our house after the restoration (which was a ton—a ton—of bone weary work).!

It was a lot. And a lot of fun.

But today was officially our first day without any plans but to stay in our pajamas all the live long day, and to really marinate in all the fun things we love during the Summer.

And, hilariously, that fun actually involved some really quality learning time that we always manage to accomplish in lively ways in our casa.

So while we’re on the subject of learning...can we just take a second to talk about rockstar teachers who have meant so much to us this past year.

Like Chica’s beloved teacher, who came over to the house a couple of days ago and spent an hour visiting—a week after having massive surgery, no less!

Every year since my kiddos have been in school, I keep saying we can’t get lucky enough to have another great teacher. And then every year, we have another fantastic, dedicated, kind educator, and I thank my lucky stars!

And something about this year of being a bit quarantined with only their specific classmates made my kiddos really connected to their teachers and friends. And I think the teachers got just as attached!

Chica’s came by to drop off this book she bought for Chica as an early birthday present—along with a giant packet of information to serve as a companion guide as she reads.

It was so above and beyond. And she and Chica are actually going to Zoom or get together in person to talk through various chapter progress during the Summer. Chica could not be more excited to dive into this 500 page book, and I’m so, dang grateful to her teacher for making this something so special and fun to tackle. :)

Now let’s talk about Chicklet, who got in the car on the last day of school and started bawling because she didn’t want the year to end!

She even invited one of her teachers over for some swim time, and believe it or not, we’re actually going to try to make it happen sometimes this Summer, ha.

Additionally, this great packet came home with her during the last week of school, and we’ve started tackling some of the worksheets. Yet again, I’m so grateful for happy, light-hearted learning, and teachers with the foresight to help us prevent the Summer learning backslide.

And this little dude was actually so pouty, all because he had to wait for his turn to work on his math! Ha. I mean, I could not be happier for my little sponges who don’t mind keeping up some light schoolwork during their break.

In other news...because we were living in our pajamas today and committed to staying home, I incentivized the kiddos to clean up the playroom by telling them we’d get out the storage containers of some of their old toys if they did a good job, tehe.

And, man, do they love digging into their stored-away toys!

While they dug into the storage containers, they took turns with me working on another fun math game they love (again, hidden learning), and were just so, darn happy.

And they managed to absolutely destroyed the cleaned-up playroom with all the bin toys, ha.

Tomorrow, we have a swim play date planned, but then on Friday, I think we might get another low-key bit of laziness before Vacation Bible School next week.

And we have every intention of making the most of all our days—busy and lazy!

Happy Wednesday, peeps.

Over and out.
