Pumping The Summer Breaks

Oh my heavens, peeps.

As I’ve said about a dozen times in the past few posts, our Summer has been all go-go-go, but we have finally pushed the STOP button on pretty much everything, and are now facing a couple weeks with a vastly slower pace.

And it could not have come at a better time.

Because the abundance of activity and late bedtimes finally caught up with m’babies yesterday afternoon, around 3:45 p.m., in the form of some massive emotional meltdowns.

Oye.

So we’re going to downshift into Summer casual and lazy and re-set our systems a bit. :) And it’s going to look a lot like this…

And this…

And this. :)

We’re going to see just how much time we can spend at the house, without getting dressed. Enjoying some school work and reading and projects and movies—just as we’ve been doing the last couple of days.

And the weather is being so helpful, I might add.

We’ve had the most glorious handful of rainy days. Just some solid downpours and blessed cloud cover throughout a decent portion of each day. Sooooo atypical for SA in July!

I mean, the temperature this evening was 79 degrees after dinner, and that’s pretty much the only thing that could have lured us into actual clothes and out on a family, evening bike ride.

You know, to help counter the lazy. ;)

Amidst a fun project (the castle and catapult and dragon wagon [tehe] that you see above), we added another lively little element to our lazy handful of days.

We each wrote down a couple of indoor, easy, enjoyable, free activities and folded them and placed them in balloons. And each day, one kiddo gets to pop a balloon, and whatever is written on that paper is the “extra” little at-home activity we’re going to tackle that day. :)

The kiddos wrote down things like:

Playing with slime
Having a tea party
Inflating the bouncy house

Lots of lovely, completely doable activities that have them hyped up, which is perfect.

Today’s popped balloon was “watching a movie,” so those are the lounging pics from the beginning of this post. We dragged the blow-up mattress in the playroom, snuggled up with some popcorn and candy and had a great little afternoon viewing.

All good things.

And speaking of good things…I made some crab cakes for dinner for the first time in ages…

And during our afternoon movie, I reminded myself how to do an inverse French braid, tehe. So if I can manage one on my own head, I can certainly weave one for each girlie. :)

Important life skills, I tell ya. ;)

So here’s to finishing out our week of solid at-home time with more rest and less meltdowns.

Happy OFFICIAL Halfway Point of Summer, peeps!

Over and out.
