Bad Guys, GREAT Readers

Oh my heavens, peeps. BE STILL, MY HEART.

By complete accident (but with the seed of hope in my heart), Chica’s Bad Guys birthday theme brought about an EXPLOSION of reading this week in our casa.

As part of her decorations, I purchased the complete 14-book series (with a 15th book coming out in a few weeks!), and arranged them in a fun formation.

Even after her official birthday, we kept the books there, like an adorable little library display, and ALL WEEK LONG, my babies have taken full advantage, walked over and grabbed one, and kept their noses in a book. NONSTOP.

All these pics are from different days and times when I wanted to WEEP with joy over their devotion to this series and their interest in reading. :)

AMEN, HALLELUIAH!

This is a wonderful example of multi-media fostering an interest in a series. Without the movie to spark the kiddos’ interest, who knows if they would have connected with this particular series so strongly??

So, thank you to the powers that be, for producing such a fun movie to usher in this Bad Guys reading interest within our household.

The girlies have both finished the series (and are already negotiating who gets to read the 15th book first, when it’s published, ha), and Little Man is halfway through. And if I keep the books out in the entryway, I think they’ll continue to re-read.

We are now OFFICIALLY at the halfway point of the summer (how is this possible???), and I’m thrilled with the reading interest within our house these past few weeks.

Aside from the Bad Guys series, the kiddos have had a lot of reading time and interest—some forced by me, and some, of their own free will—and I feel pretty confident we’ve avoided the summer literacy backslide. SO FAR.

BUT.

There are still several more weeks to go, and I know I’ll have to actively pursue another series to keep them all interest and excited. And we’ve got to ramp up our Harry reading time, which has been lacking lately, thanks to sibling sleepovers and travel. But I’m up for the challenge!

Now. If only I could ramp up our math time and skills. BIG TIME.

A challenge for this coming week!

So here’s to a happy reading crew and a Happy Holiday Weekend Sunday, peeps!

Over and out.

P.S. One last reading tidbit: when we were in Dallas about a week ago, I tried to make a point of having some iPad breaks when we were stuck in the car (gotta love that DFW traffic). And I also forced an electronic break while we were out to dinner one night with Aunt Nancy (hi, Aunt Nancy!).

Anywho…I allowed the kiddos to bring their books to dinner, instead, so the adults could talk, and all three of my babies kept their heads down the entire meal, completely in to their stories.

At one point, a husband and wife nearby leaned over and commented on the kiddos’ reading and how heartening it was to see, and it made me so happy to hear positive feedback.

You can even see one of the books under Little Man’s hand below:

So, YAY, for reading!!! LONG. LIVE. BOOKS.

Really over and out.

Nope.

I lied.

One more…

P.P.S. On a Tar-jay run after church, it tickled me endlessly to see that my kiddos have read all of these:

And that I’ve read all but two of these…

Better round out the batch with those final two. ;)

LONG. LIVE. BOOKS!

Okay, now. Really. Buh-bye!
