Summer is NO JOKE.
At least for us in the past few years, as the kiddos have grown older, more active, more social, and—most importantly—more capable of juggling all they want to do.
Consequently, I’ve long since learned that I’m just along for the ride (or, more accurately, to be the ride).
I’ll admit that it takes me a hot second to adjust to the 24/7 in-it-to-win-it mania of our summers. It’s definitely a different energy than the school year—and requires a different kind of energy, too.
We’ve been going HARD this past month. So much of it has led to wonderful, core memories for the kiddos—and for me!—but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a bit weary as we flip the calendar to July.
I recently read something online about the Summer Mindset and the need to just let go and let flow and bask in all the craziness to maintain some shred of sanity, and that’s certainly the vibe I try to lean into.
I’m headed to bed bone tired tonight after an insane but bountiful few days, but I’ll be curling up with an amazing book and hopefully a night of rest will recharge me a teeny tiny bit.
Until then…some glorious summer vibe pics of my crazies over the past couple of days. The days are long but the years are short, peeps. And precious. Worth the exhaustion—or so I tell myself! ;)
Oh! And I want to share some bonus pics of Chicklet with some amazing animal friends!
One of the reasons for my snowballed exhaustion: Saturday was a triple party day.
Chicklet had not one, but two really festive birthday parties to attend (which meant parental duty and social interaction while chaperoning).
Then I came home from the second (after five consecutive hours of partying) and had to hunker down to CREATE CHICA’S SPACE BDAY, ha.
Triple parties made me triple tired! And I wasn’t the only one.
For the first time in ages (like, I can’t remember how long), my poor Chicklet hit a wall and had a massive meltdown—right around the time of her sister’s bday extravaganza that evening.
Poor girl was sooooo tired. Her social tank and body energy to survive all these parties and fun times was on empty. And, of course, the space birthday party meant a late night, so she was just CASHED.
It’s soooo hard to balance allowing our kiddos all these amazing experiences and events and social occasions with protecting their mental and physical health and need for REST.
Tomorrow, we’ve still got a couple things on the agenda, but today was the last of the INSANE days this week (I hope!) and we’re going to take care to take some small pockets of downtime.
Until then…enjoy these Chicklet/animal pics. And I’m sure there’s a joke in here about summer life being a zoo, but my brain is too tired to come up with it. ;)
Happy Summer Insanity Tuesday (and Chica’s OFFICIAL birthday!), peeps!
Over and out.
