Travel WEARY

Well, peeps.

It was bound to happen at some point. We’ve been pretty lucky with travel, for the most part, so I guess we were due for a bit of a doozy.

And, yesterday, was it. :(

Our flight home from Denver was delayed and then delayed again—then eventually outright canceled, after we’d spent several hours at the airport (after the two hour drive from Breckenridge).

Frontier (the airline we were flying) couldn’t get us out on another flight until THURSDAY, as in, two full days after our canceled flight, and with a family of five, already exhausted after an active vacation (and this Mama, admittedly, still battling the last of the bronchitis) that just wasn’t going to work.

Unfortunately, that meant spending $700 additional dollars to book a last minute Southwest flight that was scheduled to arrive after midnight.

Welp. That one ended up delayed, too (the pilot was more than an hour late coming in from another airport/flight), so we didn’t take off until late. Here’s my poor boy, nodding off in the terminal around 9:30 p.m., poor thing:

By the time we landed, it was 2 a.m. in San Antonio, and we didn’t make it home and to bed until 3:30 in the morning. Woof.

Talk about a brutal one.

I let my babies sleep until about 10 a.m., and then lured them out of bed with Chick-fil-A biscuits so our schedules wouldn’t be even more screwed than they already were/are.

To say emotions have been running HIGH in our casa today would be an understatement.

Stick a fork in us, we’re done.

I’m currently sitting to type this during the girlies’ swim lessons (Little Man had a breakdown a couple hours ago and full-on refused; sometimes I forget my giant boy is only seven years old, and a middle-of-the-night bedtime is a lot for a kiddo that age to handle). When we’re done, we’ll be headed home to eat and CRASH.

Luckily, we spent most of the day just indoors and coping (especially in 104-degree heat), and don’t have much on the agenda tomorrow, either.

On the plus side (trying to see one, here, ha):

1. My own bed never felt so good as it did last night. I swear I didn’t sleep; I fell into a coma.

2. The kiddos—especially the girlies—logged an insane amount of reading time in the airport yesterday.

Chica hasn’t touched her iPad in weeks—weeks!—as she’s blazed through this series of hers. And Chicklet spent a solid five-ish hours reading and not on any electronics. She was so adorable, I even sent this pic to her dyslexia specialist, and it made her heart just as mine.

Might taken another day or two before we hit an even keel, but we’ll get there, eventually!

More mañana about the fun project we managed today, despite our zombie state.

Over and out.
