Barbenheimer

Okay, peeps.

It’s been silence on this here blog for more days than I care to admit. But I have valid reasons. Pinky promise!

First: we were deep in the weeds of a lot of social commitments early and mid last week.

Second: we were tackling a mountain of cleaning/packing and regrouping for our Oklahoma travel to see grandparents.

Third: we were making the actual trek up to Tulsa—an exhausting day that never leaves room for much leftover energy.

In the end, we made a spontaneous decision to drive the whole way from San Antonio in one day, instead of splitting the journey up with an overnight stay in Dallas, as we originally planned.

And that meant an arrival on Friday evening instead of midday Saturday, which afforded us the super-special opportunity to participate in this fun cultural phenomenon of…

Barbenheimer!

Of course, I’m referring to the box office opening of both Barbie and Oppenheimer, and the viral trend of seeing both in the theater. :)

An unlikely pairing turned into an extremely successful and celebratory-worthy event this weekend. I can’t believe the hubby and I inadvertently got the chance to participate!

Had I realized what a cultural zeitgeist kind of moment this was, I really would have ordered one of these awesomesauce t-shirts.

Who knows? Maybe I might, even now. Because both of these movies were fantastic in completely different ways, and I wouldn’t mind a token souvenir. And, honestly, I was a little jealous of all the ladies I saw at the theater, loud and proud in their Barbie pink. SO fun. I even saw one woman in a tulle, tiered, light-up, Barbie-pink skirt. Lurv it.

Of the two, I definitely can’t stop thinking about Oppenheimer, because of the incredible true events and unbelievable brilliance of Christopher Nolan and the stellar ensemble of actors. Particularly the lead.

But Barbie was also such a unique film, completely in on its own joke, while at the same time managing to be relevant and smart (so very smart).

I’m just so grateful for the random lucky chance to be here in Tulsa, with grandparents as babysitters, on a visit when we arrived a day early, and had the fortune of ducking out to see not one, but two stellar movies in an actual theater.

Summer is hard for time with the hubby, and we’ve certainly missed our day dates (usually lunch) while our three crazies are on summer break and underfoot or being shuttled to a gazillion activities and events.

So this was a nice little recharger movie event to help us get through the last couple weeks before the launch of school, and I’m so ticked to be in the know on these great movies.

Can’t wait to see how official box office numbers wind up tomorrow, but reading the headlines tonight, all seems really amazing. :)

Okay…more mañana with pics of our activities (beyond movies) over the last day or two.

Until then, happy Almost Monday, peeps!

Over and out.
