Fireworks Painting Project!

Well, peeps.

I finally had to break down and go to the doctor yesterday. Apparently, that upper respiratory illness of mine has progress to a full-fledged case of acute bronchitis

Man, has it taken me down and OUT. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this wiped.

I left the appointment with a steroid, an antibiotic, an inhaler and some prescription cough medicine—plus, directions for some allergy meds over the next couple of weeks—and I’m hoping I’ll be on the mend soooooon. Especially since we’re so close to our Colorado adventure!

Thankfully, it’s been sort of a brilliant pocket of down time to be so sick, which never happens.

The hubby has been home from work for the 4th and has pitched in beautifully—especially with the cooking. Even better, we wrapped up our latest rounds of camps and commitments a few days ago, so we’ve been hunkering down and spending a bunch of family time—with Mama a safe distance away, ha.

So…here’s to a bit of wellness on the horizon!

In the meantime, we’ve been soaking up some low-key but festive fun for the 4th, today!

I’ll share a separate post later tonight with more of our odds and ends, but for now, here’s a fireworks painting project I found online (through One Little Project) weeks ago and saved just for today. :)

We started with painting our canvases black for the night sky…

Then let them sit for just about a quick 20 minutes while they dried.

Meanwhile, I’d save bunches of paper towel and toilet paper rolls for this purpose. I cut the edges to mimic the firework shape while the canvases were drying…

Then we selected a handful of really vibrant acrylic paint colors and spread them out on paper plates.

To minimize mess (I’m still scarred from that bubble painting fiasco a few weeks ago, ha), we just did one color at a time and took polite and patient turns, ha.

Eventually, we layered some fireworks of different colors on top of one another, which turned out really lovely. We also used our sponge brushes to strengthen the outlines of some of the fireworks, which was a great touch.

Then…glitter!

It’s hard to catch the shimmery effect in these photos, but they turned out so vibrant and the kiddos were thrilled with their results, which is always the outcome we want!

Love, love these festive, finished, fireworks-for-the-4th paintings! ;)

I’m so glad I held this back for today. It was the perfect way to kick off our morning—while I still had a tiny bit of energy!

I think it’s going to take a hot minute to get my stamina back, but…all in good time. And we’ve got another 36 hours before our departure, so here’s hoping for wellness vibes!

Happy 4th of July, peeps!

More later. :)
