Shine Chica, Shine!

Okay, peeps.

You see this beauuuuutiful eldest-born o’ mine???

Welp.

She was honored with a major character award at school today, and it was a joy, I tell ya. An absolute joy

And not just because it was the first time it was hysterically easy and adorable to make her really squirm and cringe and fear that Daddy and I might do something really embarrassing while we were up at the school for the event, tehe. ;)

This super covert selfie was about all I braved—at least until after the ceremony was over and our girl was breathing a bit easier. :)

Thank goodness, the faculty has the smarts to hold this ceremony privately instead of in a school-wide assembly (like they do in elementary). Middle schoolers would likely expire of mortification if they were called out in front of the whole, dang student population, ha. As it was, the tension was real

Out of about approximately 915 students at Chica’s middle school, this award was given to 24–only 8 of whom were 6th graders like our girl. Talk about major parental pride going on.

We were notified about a week ago that Chica had been nominated by her team of teachers for this Bulldog with Pride award due to her exemplary character, studiousness, leadership-by-example and kindness. Part of the ceremony even involved the verbal delivery of a written bit of praise from one of her nominating teachers.

To say it was really special to witness our sweet and steady and somewhat shy girl Chica receiving such well-deserved praise is a massive understatement.

I’ve said this a million times, and I’ll say it a million more: our girl has handled her transition to middle school with such grace and kindness and level-headedness.

Her sweet and happy soul continues to shine through, she’s surrounded by wonderful and supportive friends and teachers, and it’s just an incredible JOY to see her thriving in this new chapter without any sort of ginormous upheaval or angst.

We are SO. DANG. PROUD.

Beyond some massive hugs and a happy post-awards donut-fest at school, we gifted her a little something small…

And it’s a good thing our gifts for these sorts of things are never outlandish, because Chica has truly had a week or so of shining, and this award was simply the culmination!

Last week, she performed with her orchestra as part of the holiday concert…

Happy, happy, joy, joy, blurry Walk By shot:

And more posed pics—including with one of her besties—afterwards. :)

It’s sooooo wonderful to see Chica so content with her orchestral participation. And it never ever gets old seeing/hearing her practice:

Lastly (though, not in this order) among the shining moments of this past week for Chica: her choir performance, including a special little solo!

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I was sweating as my girl had to step up to the microphone. My middle school self was literally curling into the fetal position imagining this type of spotlight, but she pulled it off with such composure, it was wild!

She was definitely nervous—but not to a great extend—and not a soul there could tell there were any jitters. She was cool as a cucumber and sang her piece with an angelic, steady voice. :)

I am sooooo aware that these shining moments or phases tend to come and go, at least for my kiddos. It’s certainly not always like this, where there are so many positives and highs to report.

And perhaps because of that, especially for a somewhat reserved kiddo like my Chica, it is an absolute blessing and beyond to witness these moments and milestones and achievements. And to give them their incredible due.

If I weren’t so bone-weary tired, I’d ramble on for hours about my girl and the pride I feel for the human she is, but…it’s time to sign off and get some sleep!

More mañana, peeps!

Over and out.
