I am generally not the person to cave to peer pressure regarding many social situations or purchasing trends, ha.
Prime examples: 1) I am not, nor have I ever been, a person who drinks alcohol, and 2) I am not, nor have I ever been, on social media.
My point is: I’m okay saying no. Or being the odd woman out, ha. Especially if it’s not something that floats my boat, or feels missing in my life.
But after several years of holding out on a Stanley (that oversized, overpriced steel cup you see everywhere), I’ve finally caved—and apparently, I’ve caved hard, thanks to my girlies and their participation in the downfall.
We went from a house with zero Stanleys to too many Stanleys, all in the span of about a week. But just look at this face:
To rewind…here’s how it all started.
In all my time as a member at my Barre exercise class, all my friends have been tickled endlessly over my ridiculous and juvenile water bottles. I’ve always just grabbed one of the kiddos’ bottles, so I’m often rocking Harry Potter or unicorns or Minecraft or something else random on the bottle, ha.
And in all this time—despite their joy over my water bottles—my friends have told me I needed a Big Girl Cup. Ha. I mean, to be fair, even my kiddos have outgrown many of these (but never Harry!).
Welp. One friend in particular still sort of casually sends me reminders or soft pushes every so often when the Stanley cup comes out in new colors, and she sent this text my way a couple weeks ago:
And you know what?
She was absolutely correct, gosh darn it.
That swirly fun colorway was so me—along with the similar version in all blues. I die.
Needless to say, I got that swirly beauty in my cart and ordered embarrassingly fast (and then felt like a part of my soul also died when I finally caved, ha).
Meanwhile, in the most HYSTERICAL and just-can’t-make-up-the-timing coincidence in all the land…
Chica came home from school that very day and started a convo, “so you know those Stanley water bottles…”
I’m pretty sure my reaction was a raucous: stop it; STOP. IT! before I proceeded to tell her I’d just ordered one that very day.
We had the liveliest, funniest convo where she shared how many Stanleys have been appearing on students’ desk at school. That day, in Honors Math, she’d counted eight. EIGHT, ha.
It made me laugh so hard—and then say: “you want a Stanley?; I’ll buy you a Stanley.” And you should have seen her face light up with glee.
And do you know whyyyy I was okay buying her a Stanley?
Because my girl is also not one to cave to trends or peer pressure and has been such a low-key tween in her assimilation into middle school.
So if a “popular” water cup makes her heart happy, that’s an easy breezy—and hydrating!—purchase to accommodate.
We’ve been toying around (read: buying and returning) so many versions, trying to figure out what works best.
Chica originally wanted the style above (because of the color), but it’s a bit less iconic than the quencher style with the giant handle. So we’re still making a final decision.
Meanwhile—I KID YOU NOT—less than a week after the original purchase day, when one of the Stanleys arrived for us to consider (but we didn’t have it unpacked yet), my Chicklet heard us talking about water bottles and was like: “hey, there’s this bottle that all my friends have, it’s called like a Susan or something,” and I just lost it. Too funny.
Turns out, she’d also been secretly jonesing to have one like her friends, ha. You see how this Stanley thing has snowballed????
In the end, I’ve made the discovery that for myself and the girlies, I prefer the 30 oz version (to the giant 40 oz one), but it all sort of depends on the color you want.
This is Chicklet’s, and she was soooooo excited when it finally arrived!
That face. I can’t.
This is one I’ve been considering for myself, as it would coordinate with a lot of my exercise clothes (man, how Real Housewives do I sound typing that, baha)…
Same with this beautiful white one…
However, I can’t get either in the smaller 30 oz, so I’m debating.
Meanwhile, it hasn’t been enough to stop at getting the water bottles (cups?). Nope, Chicklet was just dying for an adorable silicone straw cover like her friends’.
So now we’re deep in the fun weeds of accessories, ha.
This blue swirly one below is my true love Stanley. I just had to return it in this size and reorder in the smaller one. And then I’m debating if it’s absolutely ridiculous (or not) to keep the black or white one, as well, ha.
So there you have it, the trendy, totally unnecessary, but joy-sparking purchasing snowball we’ve begun. It’s the little things, people.

Here’s to lots of fun and hydration in our future, ha.
Happy Sunday, peeps!
Over and out.
