Little Man’s (Non) Swim “Party”!

Okay, peeps.

I’ve been absent on this here blog all week, since our return from Breckenridge, and there’s good reason for it! For a whole lotta reasons, these past few days have kicked my backside, big time.

But since I don’t have the energy to get into all of that at the moment, and I just want to focus on the good, I’ll share the big highlight of the day:

Little Man’s swim party with friends!

Now.

If you’ll recall…just as summer was kicking off, we hosted a really successful swim party for all of Chica’s friends and had such a lovely turnout and splashy happy go of it. It was a fantastic way to launch the summer:

At the time, I promised the kiddos they would each have a chance to host a special get-together for their friends during the summer—Chica just happened to go first—and to be patient as I spaced things out and made sure everyone got their happy friend time.

Welp.

We made it all of half a day back in town from Breckenridge before the younger two were like: WHEN do I get to have my friends over???? Ha.

(To be clear, we’ve had a handful of odds and ends play dates with friends throughout the summer [my kiddos’ social lives are not lacking, much to my exhausted chagrin!], just not the official-official thing I promised.)

So…despite the really rough week and my general beaten-down vibe after a busy month or so, I knew I needed to rip off the bandage and get these final two events crossed off my to-do list before summer slips away from us!

It took me a hot second to finagle logistics among all the involved parents/kiddos, but it ended up being kismet that Little Man’s closest buddies (all from his soccer team) were all available this afternoon (a miracle), so we Made. It. Happen.

I’m happy to report that we approached the get-together suuuuper low key. There was very little time for getting in the weeds of cleaning and planning (more on that in another post), which made things easy breezy.

I ordered some of Little Man’s favorite snacks and drinks, shoved some messes in closets, made the kiddos clean the playroom, and voila! Ready. ;)

But goodness, the excitement was there. Especially since it had been a few weeks since my boy had seen his friends. I nearly teared up when I came across this list on Little Man’s dresser this morning. The. Sweetest. Thing.

As luck—and the remnants of the hurricane—would have it, a pretty hearty thunderstorm struck by midday, so swimming was out. But it was kind of perfect in the end, because the boys had big, rowdy, raucous fun indoors.

They ran around like madmen with Nerf guns, had a modified soccer battle, busted out the bouncy house, fueled up with snacks, played table tennis…and were all super disappointed when their Mamas showed back up, ha.

And my boy had had a MASSIVE smile on his face the whole time (especially when Daddy made it home and got to play with the rowdy crew, too).

Hosting my kiddos’ friends, facilitating their social connection and being a safe space for play and hang time has always been a priority of mine.

But goodness, I hope my crazies grow up to recognize the time and intention behind it all! Because I’m not gonna lie: it takes a great deal of effort and time.

So, thank you, God, for making this one a success, despite pulling it together with little notice on a rainy day!

One more to go…

Happy Weekend (and more on all life happenings, soon!), peeps!

Over and out.
