What a wild ride Summers can be!

As a random side note: I think Coda girl is living her best Summer life, ha. She gets lots more snuggle time, lots more people time, less forced time away at the Play Place (because there are more hands on deck to care for her), and she just seems pretty darn happy—and a tad more chill, if I’m being honest.

Even though I’m tired, the hubby is tired, and we both wish it was possible to have greater Summer decompression, I’m still able to maintain perspective that these fleeting weeks are precious and will be over before we know it. So I’m just trying to lean in to the crazy and the overstimulation and be grateful for all that it is. :)
It feels especially wild (at times), because we kind of glorify June and July as these carefree, unscheduled months, and…they’re really not. At least, not for our crew.
We’re barreling toward the end of Week 4 and there has been very little down time. And very little of that is within my control!
These kiddos of mine just have a lot of self-selected commitments and a strong desire to keep in touch with friends, and the net result is just very little of the cocooning, unplugged time that I’d kind of like to manage!
But…I’ll share more on that in an upcoming post and just say for now that this has been a week of settling into the bulk of our standard Summer Routine. Which, I suppose, is still a bit of a welcome thing—even if we’re vastly busier than I’d like.
Since we’re in town all week, with no visitors, and just our regular rotation of commitments, I’ve taken it upon myself to try to arrange some time for the kiddos to see their friends, which is always a game of weighing the net gain.
On one hand, I’d sometimes love to lock all of us in the house, turn off all phones and just hunker down without any outside contact, ha.
But on the other hand…I’ve seen, firsthand, how much it help my kids to have consistent time with friends, especially in the Summer months, so I just do my best to schedule things at a time I can mentally handle it and remind myself that these are The Golden Years when there’s no rest for the weary!
Yesterday was one of those days where we were quite busy, but at least around and capable of hosting, so each of the kiddos had a buddy and we did a whole thing for 3-4 hours, including some swimming to cap it off. And even though I’m quite tired from the past few weeks and dreaming of a nap (or 15 minutes to stare at a wall), even I can admit that it was a beautiful thing to see and hear the sights and sounds of kiddos just doing there thing and living their Summer life. :)
Plus, we managed to accidentally stay on theme and knock out a Test Kitchen Tuesday, because Chica and one of her friends really love baking experiments and made plans to tackle a recipe that’s from a series Chica loves. And I gotta say: they nailed it!

More soon, peeps!
Over and out.
