Okay, peeps.
It's time to share a major milestone in my Chicklet's journey toward Confirmation of her faith within our church:
Her Pastoral Interview! Completed two days ago!
Backing up for a second...I just have to say that it's absolutely wild that we're nearing the end of Chicklet's Confirmation journey!
As a recap, our church allows for middle school-age children to commit to this process of preparing them to confirm their faith and start taking Holy Communion. It's most common for kiddos to go through Confirmation in 6th grade, and it's essentially a school year commitment of:
- Wednesday night sessions (about every other week)
- Sunday school sessions (weekly)
- Memory Verse work (weekly)
- Sermon Note work (only six reports in total)
- An overnight retreat (in the Fall)
- A daytime retreat (in the Spring) and...
- A Pastoral Interview!
It's hard to believe that Chicklet has now completed all of the above (with the exception of her ongoing Sunday School attendance for the next two months and the small Spring retreat), and even passed the very anxiety-inducing Pastoral Interview with flying colors--and a smile (plus Swedish Fish to celebrate, ha).
Back in my day (don't you just love saying that?) we were subjected to a "quiz" by the pastor in front of the congregation to cap off our Confirmation, and, holy moly was it vomit-inducing.
I'm so glad they don't torture kiddos in that way, anymore. If anything, the Pastoral Interview seems tame by comparison. And, honestly, it's a rite of passage whereby the Pastor gets to have one-on-one convos with every single Confirmand before the big day, and that's kind of wonderful.
That said...the kiddos are still quaking in their boots as they enter the church office building, ha. Goodness, I can so clearly picture how Chica looked ready to pass out when she had to do the very same, two years ago. She was so relieved when it was over!

As with most things in life, it's so beautiful to see the unique approach each of my kiddos takes toward tackling major milestones. Chicklet has been very chill about her Confirmation process.
In fact, she has always been so solid in her personal relationship with God that she almost approaches all of this Confirmation hullabaloo as red tape that's a bit unnecessary, and I kind of love that about her!
She has an incredible way of cutting to the chase about important matters ("God doesn't care what I wear to church; he knows my heart") that challenges me to look at the world through Chicklet-tinted glasses, and I'm so grateful to see things through her eyes.
Much like Chica gravitated toward a chosen Confirmation verse that suited her perfectly, Chicklet has done the same:
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
My girl knows that God's got her, and I'm so excited for her to complete this "red tape" journey of Confirming her faith during this really fun year of change and growth.
Chicklet might have started the school year on shaky ground--like 99.99% of incoming middle schoolers--but she is vibing and thriving, these days.
Humming, smiling, reading (and reading!), putting herself out there for the school participation she's actually interested in, and not getting down when things don't work out. She's breezing through braces and athletics and her school work with her typical, unfiltered nonchalance, and...I'm here for it.
(If only she'd grant me permission for more photo-taking! Argh! She's still a stickler on that one!)
Okay...signing off for now, but more, soon, peeps!
Happy Thursday!
Over and out.
