Homemade Bouncy Balls!

We tried out a new brand of projects today! Woohoo!

It's one I've seen at Tar-jay quite often, but haven't purchased before now because: a) some of their kits are geared toward slightly older kiddies, and, b) some are more expensive than our average crafting budget.

But...this particular one (for $9) lured me in because it seemed super fun. And I love that this brand is more scientifically minded.

So here it is...Wonderology's Zany Ball (aka: bouncy ball) Kit!

It comes with three different sizes of these fun capsule thingies (technical term):

You pour this colored polymer sand-type of stuff (again, very technical) into an opening at the top of the capsule.

It came with multiple colors, so we layered a few to make a multi-colored ball.

Then, when you've got the whole capsule filled up with the sand, you drop it into a cup of water for one minute for it to solidify.

Then you take it out of the water, pop the capsule open, and oooooh and aaaah.

Chica was super excited to hold it until I told her it was a bit sticky/slimy--which it is, until it dries fully.

She was not a fan of the sticky/slimy.

But she just couldn't resist poking it a bit as it was sitting and drying. Oh, and do you see that green peace sign at the top of the ball? The kit comes with a few things you can plop into the capsule before you pour in the sand so you can have some flair.

They really are super fun :) Even when slightly sticky.

We created a second, smaller one. See that orange star we put in the bottom before the sand?

Then dunk time...

And wait time...

Then oooooh and aaaah time again.

It was basically full-on torture for her to have to wait on them to dry before bouncing them. She asked about every 30 seconds (for half an hour) if they were ready. Ha.

But they were well worth the wait!

Check out this major wind-up:

Poor Chicklet was chasing them every which way, trying to keep up.

They were a wild success. So much that the small one came to the dinner table, hehe.

And the best news--the kit came with enough supplies for several more bouncy balls on another day. Double--or triple--the fun! Woohoo!

Yay for a new brand of projects :) other kits from this brand were on clearance at my Target today, so I'll have to check them out on our next visit.

Happy Thursday, peeps!
