A Perfect Zoo Day

Oh my heavens, we had the perfect, sort of spur-of-the-moment zoo day on Saturday, and it was just glorious.

I mean, just look at those blue skies!

We hadn’t been since April, and the kiddos had been randomly asking about it—see below evidence, courtesy of Chica:

So we had it in the back of our minds, but were worried about the massive cold front that came through. I mean, we had a freeze warning on Friday night!

Luckily, we just decided to go for it, and the day was crisp (cold temps, but we were bundled and never cold) and sunny skies, with no crowds and just happy, happy, joy, joy.

Even better—our membership was still current, so no cost for parking or entrance. Just food and souvenirs, woohoo!

I mean, truly, this was just the most chill day we’ve ever had there. No whining, no exhaustion, no stress, just smiles. :)

Chica and her beloved cheetah...

Chicklet and her beloved snake...

Penguins!

Elephant (napping, propped up by the wall, ha)!

Giraffes!

During our April visit to the zoo, we fed the giraffes for the very first time, and now it’s hands-down one of our favorite things to do.

And—bonus!—no crowds meant more face and feeding time with the tall guys. :)

I adore these trio shots. Smiles that make my Mama heart so happy. :)

A prop Jeep to take pics and pretend you were being hunted on a safari, ha.

Frozen yogurt! Which might sound insane in such a cold day, but it was a genius moved because it didn’t melt, hehe.

Flamingos!

And our other very favorite part of our visits—Windspear, the cheetah, and his awesome run.

Next up—a small train ride with my very enthusiastic trio, ha.

And, lastly—souvenirs, because everyone was happy, Mama and Daddy are suckers, and the kiddos only have 10,964 stuffed animals already. ;)

Not to belabor (man, that might be my very first use of that word on this here blog!) the point, but we seriously had a fun family day.

We went straight from breakfast to the zoo to a Christmas warehouse store to a yummy dinner out, and only made it home by bath time.

And being gone all day like that—by choice and without pain, ha—is pretty rare for us.

I’m going to hold onto this one as things get more hectic over the coming weeks. Already, today, the schedule turned crazier.

But we made it to church for the first time in three weeks without any actively sick kiddos, so there was a lot to be thankful for.

Hope you all had a good one.

Haaaaaaaapy Sunday, peeps.

Over and out.
