Our Elf Adventures—2018!

So...I know—I know—that I’m way behind in sharing these with you, but I just couldn’t leave our holiday season behind without giving you pics of our wonderful, mischievous, beloved elf, Leaf, who was with us again this year.

Word on the streets (the mean, rough suburban streets of our city) is that lots o’ holiday elves make an appearance immediately after Thanksgiving, to start keeping tabs on kiddos’ behavior.

But our awesomesauce Leaf—heaven bless him—shows up exactly two weeks before Christmas, and not one day sooner, so as not to overstay his welcome, ifyouknowhatI’msaying.

And, man, where the kiddos excited to see the little guy (er, elf).

I suppose it’s important to note, lest you’ve forgotten, that my kiddos tend to adore Leaf the very bestest when his especially naughty. What this says about them, I don’t want to decipher. They just lurv his mischievous side. ;)

So they were thrilled to bits and pieces and bits when he made his first appearance of the year by putting foam stickers all over the hardwood floor upstairs, so everyone would see them when they first woke up. And he usually left a note along with his antics—which was especially adorable now that Chica can read.

Since she’s always the first out of her room on school days, she was also the first (on most days), to hunt for the little guy.

And I gotta say, it was an excellent “alarm clock” for my kiddo who loathes early wake up times. She was up and at ‘em every dang morning he was with us, hehe.

Another important note about our Leaf is that he’s an equal opportunity dresser. He may be male by birth, but last year, he was known to rock a grass skirt and hula with Moana. So this year, we left him another fun clothing surprise one evening.

And he was so excited about the outfit that he busted out our project glitter and made a creative mess to match his sparkles. ;)

You’ll note here that Little Man is about to reach for Leaf, which is a huge no-no. Since, as you know, elves lose their magic if you touch them. Chica was on particularl elf watch on this front and would literally attack if she thought anyone got too close for comfort, ha.

One hilarious morning, we found Leaf in a bad state, sick from way too many desserts he stole from the pantry during the night. He spent most of that day in a lousy state, with a fellow stuffed animal friend giving him frequent checkups. A cautionary tale.

And another mischievous morning, he’d made a toilet paper mess—much to the kiddos wild delight. This is an antic he’s pulled each year in this same bathroom, and they just can’t get enough.

After a night of getting out a bunch of Christmas decorations for us (stockings and what not), Leaf was exhausted and took a lovely, all-day nap with a bunch of his stuffed buddies, hehe.

And thank goodness he rested up, because he had a ridiculously fun buddy—an Elf by the Brian Boitano—who stowed away in Uncle Justin’s backpack on his way to town.

And though I epically failed to take a bunch of pictures, the two of them strung string all over the downstairs and stairwell, and made an epic string-slide for elf zip lining.

It. Was. Awesome.

So the moral of this post...we love Leaf an extraordinary amount. And we were thrilled to have him with us again, and sad to see him go.

But we know we’ll see him again!

Oh—and forgive my crappy lack of pics for the days I missed, that included, but were not limited to: cozying up in kiddos’ beds, playing Christmas show tunes on the piano, and hanging upside down from chandeliers above hearts made of marshmallows.

Good times, good times.

:)
