Our Farewell Tour—The Zoo!

Well, m’peeps.

It was another not-great day, with lingering drama-trauma over the still-not-finalized sale of this house. And it was dreary and rainy, to boot!

But instead of posting something depressing, I’m going to forcibly post a happy, happy, joy, joy happening!

Another fun excursion we made this past weekend—to the zoo we love, for the last time before the move. :)

It was pretty dang freezing that day, but we had nothing major on the agenda, and really needed to take advantage of the opportunity. And, the kiddos had been asking, and asking, and asking, ha. Persistent little buggers. ;) I feel like they’re collaborating behind our backs and slowly but surely making it through a slew of requests. Bowling, dinosaurs/nature sanctuary, zoo, swimming...next, I fear, is Chuck E. Cheese! Yikes.

Anywho.

It was freezing, but we bundled up and set off first thing in the morning so we could try to make the early cheetah run, have our good times, and still be back home by early afternoon.

Alas, we didn’t think so much about the animals that wouldn’t want to be out in the freezing, cloudy, morning, ha.

The African gang—giraffes, elephants, lion, cheetah, etc., don’t like the cold. DUH.

I suppose we didn’t really consider this, since our very favorite round ever at the zoo (in November) was on a super cold day, as well, but we still saw tons o’ animals. The zoo staff informed us that was likely because it was cold but sunny that day, which is more likely to bring the animals out.

But.

Despite the missed animals, we had a blast.

(And we still have our current zoo membership, so no expensive entrance fees for very few animal sightings, thank goodness!)

The kiddos were ECSTATIC to be there, running wild and free, with very few people around us. And, it gave us a chance to appreciate some of the things we perhaps overlook in favor of the hyped up animals.

So it was still a major success.

And definitely an outing to help provide some fun and diversion to counteract some of these ongoing to-do-filled days this week.

And now...a gazillion pics!

This next bit was one of my very favorites of the visit. We passed by this Mandrill (largest monkey in the world) exhibit, right after some staff had strategically placed a bunch of food throughout the enclosure.

So we got to watch the colorful (on his rump!) guy come for the food and end up right in front of us, where he totally engaged with the kiddos as they looked and he looked and they waved. It was awesomesauce.

And I can’t even really recall one other visit when we’ve seen this guy. So it was extra fun and special.

It really was a great visit, despite the cold that kept some animals away.

And it capped off so many great memories I have of all the visits we’ve made with the kiddos—starting when Chica was barely a year old.

So now...on to conquer other zoos, and make new animal memories that will hopefully be as fantastic as these.

:)

Happy Tuesday, peeps.
