My Little Baker Babies

Well, m’peeps. We’re staring down the first FriYAY, of our first week of Summer 2019, and I can absolutely say that this week was grrrrreat.

The girlies have continued to have a total blast at VBS. Little Man and I have enjoyed some extra specialsauce quality time. We’ve managed to fit in a bit of housework productivity. AND, Daddy has been with us a bit more for lunches and—happy, happy, joy, joy—dinner a couple times. 

I know that this summer kickoff glow will not last. (I mean, we’ve had our moments of sibling infighting and meltdowns, too). But I’m just taking each week as it comes. Determined to do our best to have more fun and adventures this summer than angst. 

And...part of our fun this week was some baking time! Something I hope to do a bit more of with the kiddos over the next couple of months. They’re such eager sous chefs, but too often during meal prep, I avoid their “help” in favor of efficiency. So here’s my tiny attempt to rectify that, a bit. 

I decided to kick off our baking adventures with some aprons they could personalize, and decorating them was a wild success—likely because I busted out some fabric markers, and they just luuuuurv markers (probably because we use them sparingly, ha. Markers are my nemesis).

I mean, seriously, this was a fun little early evening project. I was in a happy, silly mood because I’d just hung my curtains, we were playing music and dancing and letting loose, and they were happy to just color, color, color. 

They were so proud of their creations (even though Chica complained that she needed much more time to finish her rows upon rows of tiny flowers, ha).

So this was Monday, and then yesterday, we busted out the cake batter and went nuts with giant cupcakes.

When it came time for icing, things got significantly messier—and my smart little nuggets learned quickly that it was pretty dang easy to just squeeze directly into their mouths, ha. Which probably accounts for Chicklet’s request to make cupcakes every day, every day. ;)

We might have to be a little repetitive or just do variations on similar cupcakes, considering their favorite part of baking is batter-tasting and decorating, but still. We’ll do our best.
