Cardboard Gingerbread Houses!

Well, m’peeps.

We’re in the full swing of things, post-Thanksgiving, and I’m not gonna lie: it’s been a wee bit painful to get back in our groove. Crazy kiddos in the evenings. And tired Mama with those super early wake-ups.

But.

It’s nothing a little project diversion can’t help. :)

Enter: holiday crafts!

After a super successful round of these little gingerbread houses last night after school/dance class/dinner, I may or may not have made a trip to Hobby Lobby this morning to stock up on a handful (or eight or nine *cough*) of other seasonal crafts.

Woohoo, for some project fun!

As I was looking at all of these dimly lit pics, I realized it’s super unusual for us to do a just-before-bed time craft. We’re more likely to do an afternoon project.

But I needed a little somethin’ somethin’ to help us power through that last half hour—and it had the double bonus of allowing Daddy to eat peacefully when he made it home, as little hands were busy with stickers, hehe.

It was actually pretty cute how into it they were. Speaks volumes to how much they really love these small crafts, and how few we managed in November (after a decent October of fitting in some Halloween ones).

I also love that they discussed making extras and gifting them to friends and neighbors.

In fact, Little Man took the time to make an extra house this morning before preschool, and brought two completed ones to his teachers—and it was all his idea.

You know, back in the day, when they were much younger, and these projects inevitably came in packs of 8 or 12 or—holy moly—24, I would spark the idea of “gifting” them as a way to move some of them out of the house, ha. And it had the added benefit of occupying a little bit of our time while we walked them to some of our neighbors’ front doors or mail boxes.

But it really is a triple threat benefit:
  1. Gets rid of some
  2. Uses up time and energy during delivery
  3. Promotes a giving spirit and small sense of community.
Everybody loves a bit of contact or symbol of thought—even if it’s just an itty bitty kid craft. So I think we’ll try to spread a little cheer with our Christmas projects this season. :)

Now please enjoy this final, hilariously awko-taco pose of the girlies, tehe.

Happy Tuesday, peeps!

Over and out.
