Sugar Cookies! (Holiday 2019)

Today, on this here blog, I give you everyone’s favorite holiday treat:

Destroying Your Kitchen With Flour

20 minutes to prepare
10 minutes to bake
2,748 minutes to restore order

:)

(Oh, and my “don’t smile” Chicklet picture technique was still golden today.)

I mean....pic after pic after smiley, smiley, pic!

Side note: One of my smartest decisions ever was investing in IKEA rolling pins for all my kiddos. Significantly cut down on the fighting and grabbing this year, ha.)

Anywho...sugar cookies!

I know I’ve posted tons o’ obnoxious pics in previous years, but I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned how solidly this ranks for me as one of my top childhood holiday traditions.

The recipe came from my paternal grandmother, who apparently guarded it quite fiercely, and I have very clear memories of this event as a child—and many of them feature my dad—which is extra special, since he died when I was young.

The flour to dough to rolling thickness is a major component of the success of these delicious bad boys, and something I so strongly recall being taught as a kiddo, hehe.

I love that my kiddos already adore and expect this fun baking treat every year (and usually every Easter, as well). Keeping the baking alive!

Last note on the cookie front: I also, also love (I have a lot o’ love associated with these sugar cookies, hehe) how every member of my family has certain “Bible” rules about their personal version of these sugar cookies:

Nanna is exclusively bells and trees and does not condone toppings beyond icing.

Older bro usually bakes his as circles, because he’s often doing mass batches and prefers it for ease of icing.

And I, myself, am pretty fanciful with a leaf shape (that I didn’t bust out today, but often do for a special Fall batch), because I can somehow magically flair the icing on the leaves really well, hehe.

Anywho...I hope someday I have some shape or style or special bit of creativity that I associate with my kiddos and their version of these cookies. :)

Needless to say...these are a bit involved and require some prep for chilling the dough, so when I realized we sort of really needed to do these today, as things are getting busier and busier and we’ve only got one week left, I made like a busy bee before the girlies got home from school to set the stage.

And they were pumped, ha.

I mean, my kiddos have been obnoxiously smiley the last couple days (when they’re not having emotional meltdowns, ha), and I could not lurv it more!

If you look closely below, you can still see remnants of Chica’s red cupcake icing from school (someone’s bday) on here teeth. Add to that the cookie dough, and the dessert I gave them with dinner, and I am a total sugar pusher today!

Glad we had another fun round of something holiday-related today—and equally glad to have collapsed and snuggled on the couch with my babies after dinner, for a little Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas viewing. One of my very favorites. :)

If my eyes weren’t so tired they were burning, I’d post about Little Man’s school holiday performance today. But that, m’peeps, will have to wait for mañana!

Happy Almost Friday, peeps!

Over and out.
