The F Word (But Not That One)

So...it’s a really good thing my girlies lived up their Rodeo Day yesterday.

Because with zero warning—beyond a slightly more emotional state during dinner last night—Chicklet woke at 2 a.m. screaming over pain in her head, and raging with fever. :(

Fast forward to 11 a.m. this morning at the doctor, where she tested positive for the FLU.

Boooooooo.

But holy YES to these adorable face masks they gave us (a handful of ‘em, upon my request), because let’s be real: no kiddo is 100% awesomesauce at covering their mouth with every cough. And my Chicklet isn’t allowed to return to school until WEDNESDAY (yup, today is Friday), because she’s contagious for FIVE DAYS.

Gahhhh.

Trying not to think about how she coughed directly into my mouth several times while I dosed her with Motrin in the middle of the night.

Or how she used my shirt as her Kleenex after the flu test swab at the doc’s office. Or how many tissue assists I’ve provided when her arms were too weak to lift.

Or how she threw up all over my bed this evening and there was a LOT of laundry and bleach involved in cleaning up, but there was also a lot of stuff—including myself—within the sick zone.

OYE.

Just hoping for some peaceful rest for my aching girl, and the ability to keep everyone entertained (but not infected) while we’re home-bound this weekend.

Oh—but an honorable mention totally goes to Chica and Little Man for their calm behavior this afternoon.

Chica was a rockstar grabbing me cleaning supplies and changes of clothes and towels and everything I called for while things were a little tense.

And Little Man—who’d been waiting for days to build this Iron Man buster LEGO set today was such a patient little dude when we had to tackle it in stops and starts whenever Chicklet was resting. It took us until bath time to finish, but we did. :)

So...wish us weekend luck, peeps.

Over and out.
