Holy Hot Mess Express!

For the love of all that is good and holy...I’m pretty ding-dang-dong pumped that tomorrow is Friday.

And not just any Friday.

The Friday of the first full week of school.

(Virtual school, no less.)

Which makes it a total and complete FRIYAY.

We’ve managed to remain relatively stable and sane in our household, and I can even see that we’re starting to feel a rhythm to our (home) school day.

Full disclosure: it’s a LOT of juggling on my part. Schedules and zoom links and IT support and trouble-shooting, and assignment help. And of course, it doesn’t help that the girlies’ schedules are usually at total odds with one another. Different times for breaks and lunch and subject changes and times they need me for tech support. So...lots of running around, ha.

But. I think our school district has established a really solid framework, and I think both girlies lucked out with great teachers, so they’ve been pretty solid this week—if fatigued, as one might expect.

So...here’s hoping we can keep morale up and continue to acclimate without attitudes tanking, ha.

And now, before some pics of everything that's fallen by the wayside this week with the onslaught of school responsibilities, I give you two Chicklet things that made me chuckle:

First...this post-it note she wrote and stuck to her iPad stand:

And second: this hilarious convo she had with Chica yesterday when they both completed their school days.

Chicklet: “Are you done?”

Chica: “Yes.”

Chicklet: “Then get your pajamas on, girl.”

Bahaha. It made me belly laugh so hard. The “girl” was hysterically and sassily delivered.

Love those crazy babies o’ mine.

And even though they’re QUICK to revert back to their pajama-ed state when they’re done with zoom, it’s so lovely to see my eldest in her typical, school attire. Soft dress, cozy sweater, necklace, and hair half up. Truly, nothing screams school year for her like this whole shebang. It’s like her preferred armor. :)

Little Man has been a total rock star during all the chaos this week. Mornings tend to be slightly more manageable, so I try to give him a tiny bit of devoted attention (and we even managed one morning of “school” for him) before things go off the rails.

Otherwise, he’s so happy when one of the girlies has a quick break to give him some attention (he’s missing his all-day playmates!), and he and I have been doing TONS o’ puzzles, as we can stop and start them when someone hollers my name.

Now.

The one major thing that makes me want to weep:

The current state of the playroom.

I’ve had not one iota of free time to attempt any clean-up—or force my crazies to do it. And worse, still...they built a fort tunnel and then proceeded to dump every toy and stuffed animal out of any storage bin or container so they could use items as “stabilizers” for the fort. To say it’s overwhelming would be a MASSIVE UNDERSTATEMENT.

But they’ve been happy campers in there. All creative and unplugged. And that’s a good thing.

I mean...seriously, though.

Restoring that room to its (hardly ever) tidy state is going to take all weekend. Oye.

But I’m hoping it will be a quality weekend, regardless.

I’ve been forcing them to take a major brain break after their school day is over. Swimming, one afternoon. Kinetic sand, another one. And today, I was a total sucker and enabler, and brought them to Homegoods to snag a couple more blankets for their fort-building endeavors. Because apparently, every blanket in the whole household wasn’t enough.

Consider it a school kick-off present. ;)

(Or punishment, for yours truly. More fort messes, more laundry, ha.)

Oh well.

When I got the blankets out of the washer/dryer, they went so nuts (in a happy way) it was like they’d won their own lottery.

(Giver of Joy, peeps. That’s me. Ha.)

Love these crazies and hope we can make it through tomorrow so we can celebrate Week 1.

Stay healthy, stay sane, peeps.

Over and out.
