2020, Over and OUT

Okay, m’peeps.

There’s nothing to be said about this year of ours that hasn’t been lived by everyone, collectively, on the planet. So I won’t take that walk down a tumultuous memory lane.

Though—let’s be clear—if 2020 required a single, representative snapshot from my camera roll, it would be this one:

Bless Chicklet and her expression, circa April, that summed up all of my emotions in a nutshell.

But truly, instead of that precarious walk down memory lane, or even a gazillion days or moments or feelings or snapshots to recap this year in its entirety...I’d like to acknowledge the light that has been present among the darkness.

Throughout a year that has brought so much pain and confusion and anxiety and fear and sorrow and loss and anger and hopelessness...there were so many silver linings to acknowledge.

So many good and decent humans working tirelessly in essential jobs. So many parents and educators and resourceful individuals creating and providing outlets for entertainment and purpose and learning in a time of need. So many family members and friends—or even strangers—ready with a helping hand or sense of encouragement for anyone feeling isolated or vulnerable.

There is well and truly good in the world. Even when it feels impossible to revel in it.

So my prayer for any of you out there tonight who are beyond ready to wipe this slate clean:

I pray the brightness has, in some way, outweighed the darkness, and that the hope of a fresh start and a NEW YEAR fortifies the belief that better days will come.

I’ve never been so grateful for the little moments.

And hopeful of all that is on the 2021 horizon.

Stay healthy, stay sane, peeps.

Over and out.
