Stitched Calavera Project!

Hellooooo, and Happy Saturday, from our low-key household to yours!

With little on the agenda today (thank heavens), we were able to slow down our pace big time and indulge in pajamas, a family home movie, some slow-and-steady laundry, baking, cooking, football, and…a project. :)

No surprise here: we lurv a good project.

Better yet: we lurv a good Halloween project and it’s one of our busiest crafting seasons of the year.

But in all of our Halloween projecting years, we’ve never managed to lean in to anything within the Day of the Dead theme of decorations, so when I saw this kit in Tarjay, I was soooo here for it.

Something that explored the iconic skull decorations we can all identify, but with lots of the cuteness and none of the morbidity or creepiness.

Bonus: I learned a new word! I love it when our project time comes with a little education. :)

The project itself was so easy, but a bit different from some of our classics that only involve peel-and-stick decorations. The sewing component just took it one step further, and the kiddos were really in to it.

They just selected the color of felt for their calaveras (both a back and a front)…

Glammed them up to their heart’s content…

And then utilized the kid-friendly needle and thread to do a simple loop stitch to close it up (with pre-existing hole that made it even easier)…

So. Adorable. (The calaveras are pretty cute, too.)

Chica has completed some simple sewing projects in the past (and really adored them), but I don’t think Chica or Little Man have done much on this front. They both really enjoyed the process, so it’s an area of crafting I’ll have to check in to for future projects.

Before we finalized all the stitching, we stuffed the calaveras with some fluff to plump them up…

And…voila! Lovely little finished products that could either include a loop for hanging or just exist on their own.

Thumbs up for this one.

And a major thumbs up for a less stressful day. We definitely needed it.

Happy Weekend, peeps!

Over and out.
