Zoo Camp!

Well, peeps.

Our summer of a new activity or adventure every, dang week is trucking along full steam ahead!

We made it back from Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, we did Chica’s 10th birthday up right—heist style.

Then yesterday, the kiddos launched in to their super-fantastic week of…

Zoo Camp!

I mean…if that ain’t a trio of trouble in that pic, then I don’t know what is. Ha.

Since our move here three years ago, I’ve kept the idea of SA Zoo Camp in the back of my mind. But there’s always been something to keep us from it.

First: you have to enroll early to snag a spot. Like, around February, or you’re out of luck. Booo.

Second: pandemic life kind of messed with our chance to make it happen there for awhile.

Third: it’s not exactly inexpensive. Oye. And times three kiddos…well. I had to gear up for forking over that kind of money, ha.

But this year, the stars all aligned.

I remember about early registration. We have neighbor friends down the street who also enrolled (hello, glorious carpooling!), and we budgeted for this expense in advance—especially knowing it was Chica’s last chance to participate as an incoming 5th grader (don’t even get me started).

The kiddos rolled out of bed bright and early on Monday (with their new shoes from Dallas shopping!). We slathered on sunscreen and bug spray and loaded them up with water and lunch. :)

My crazies were wildly excited about the carpooling component of this camp adventure, too. Such a simple thing, but a big joy and treat for little friends, yes??

Doesn’t Chica look like a giant here?? Ha. I mean, to be fair, she’s on a raised part of the neighbor’s yard, and standing next to the youngest kiddos of the bunch.

The zoo camp hours follow nearly a standard school day (minus a later start), and thank heavens the heat broke just a teeny tiny bit this week, as they spend so much of the day outdoors.

So far, they’ve had animal encounters with birds, kangaroos, snakes, hippos (they even fed them today!), box turtles, bats…I mean, talk about COOL. They feel so special going “behind the scenes” in some areas of the zoo, as any kid would! Plus, they tackle fun crafts and some classroom learning and they’ve given it nothing but thumbs up reports when they come home.

They were given these awesomesauce lime green shirts to wear each day, and I sort of lurv them. :) Though I don’t love washing them every night, ha.

I also don’t exactly love the early start we have to make each morning—especially considering how wiped my three crazies have been each day. But, the golden morning hour allows for prime deer spotting…

I’m so grateful for this summer of my kiddos experiencing a lot of really fun activities—with a bonus of staying connected to their friends. By the end of this week, they’ll have accumulated so many animal adventures they won’t be able to list them all!

So here’s to the rest of the week continuing along this positive trend!

And to tired babies come Friday, ha.

Happy Tuesday, peeps!

Over and out.
