A (Dude) Perfect Summer

Okay, peeps.

In these final, dwindling days of summer (that HURTS me to type!), I’d be remiss if I didn’t post about our greatest form of family viewing entertainment these past few months….

Dude Perfect!

For those in the know, this logo will be familiar:

But if you began the summer as a novice like me, completely unaware of these five guys who’ve gained 50 million YouTube followers over the past decade, I’ll give you a shortcut explanation of what they’re all about.

They attracted an audience all those years ago when they posted a video of insane basketball trick shots they managed in their own back yard, and they’ve just upped the ante ever since.

They still do the trick shots (with basketballs, ping pong balls, nerf bows and arrows, plungers…you name it), but they also concoct some of the most insane challenges, variety show-types of silliness, and have even done a few stadium tours in past summers.

They get professional athletes and celebrities of all manner to join in the made-up fun, their sponsors are top notch, and they’ve even started going on these amazing Bucket List trips all over the world for their videos.

And they’ve made an incredibly lucrative living out of it!

It’s nuts.

They basically just get to be Big Kids doing silly, ridiculous—and ridiculously fun!—things for a living. And that’s not to belittle the incredible amount of work that goes in to what they do.

But what I love best:

ALL of their content is family friendly. No cussing or inappropriate words or behavior. The foundation of their work and their individual lives is their Christian faith and they live that out in their content. So I never have to worry about whether it’s okay to show the kiddos.

These five guys (friends since college, and headquartered in our old DFW hood) have been—and will continue to be—a MAJOR source of entertainment for my crew.

I love, love, LOVE adding new chapters to our family viewing story. Crikey, our baking challenge shows, some Dude Perfect content…it’s so great to spend this viewing time together, watching something we can all enjoy.

So here’s to our (Dude) Perfect Summer, and much more to come!

P.S. I can’t believe I’ve never posted about it, but for months, thanks to these videos and their inspiration, we’ve been trying our own trick shots at home. Setting up obstacles with red solo cups and ping pong balls, or trying to make basketball shots jumping off the fountain in our pool. It’s all good fun. And such a fun hand-eye coordination challenge. :)

Long live the fun!

Over and out.
