Guadalupe River State Park Summer Kickoff

Well, peeps.

Today, our crew marked the unofficial launch of summer with a little adventure! To Guadalupe River State Park. :)

We first discovered this little gem—about thirty minutes down the road—thanks to a suggestion from the photographer we’ve utilized many times for our annual family pictures.

Four hears running, she’s been fantastic at coming up with beautiful locations off the beaten path, and last October, we trekked out to Guadalupe and had an absolute blast—with the bonus of some gorgeous pictures. :)

Of course, that day, we were dressed up and it was Fall, so we weren’t in the best situation to enjoy the water. But I made a mental note to haul our crew back when the time was right…and that time is now!

Because it’s a state park, you have to secure a pass prior to your visit, and our attempt yesterday was foiled because it was already all booked. But other than thinking far enough ahead to guarantee your entrance, it’s easy breezy, a beautiful rural drive out there, and a fantastic area to explore. The wildflowers were especially pretty this go-‘round.

The first half of the day was full of great weather, but we knew a chance of rain was coming in the afternoon—right around the time we were headed out there, ha.

But in the end, it was kind of a coolio vibe. The cloud cover kept us from baking, and the distant thunder was pretty awesome (don’t worry, we were safe, surrounded by tons of people, and tracking lightning strikes).

The water was pretty chilly but not at all a barrier to fun play. It only took a short while before the kiddos were submerged.

Another bonus to this location: much of the area is so shallow and calm that it’s a really chill situation. With a perfect expanse for skipping rocks/balls. And some great, manageable rock formations for climbing.

The kiddos definitely got their exploration fix, and it was nice to be in an area that wasn’t precarious or tense.

I lurv this girlie and her happy new rainbow swimsuit. :)

Of course, we’ve been accumulating a couple of new swim gear pieces for all our growing crazies, and this bathing suit of Chica’s is also a whole look that I lurv. With shorts, it just looks like a beautiful top. I wish it came in my size.

Ugh. This sister snap just slays me…

I love these crazies (emphasis on the CRAZY, lately).

Double. Trouble. Why do so many “affectionate” pics of these two involve a headlock?

It really was such an easy and fruitful excursion that I’m already itching to go back on one of those scorching summer days when we just want to laze in the water for an ounce of relief.

It was the perfect start to summer (despite the final day of school tomorrow, ha)—and actually a summer bucket list item already crossed off!

So…win/win.

More maƱana, peeps!

Until, then…HAPPY SUMMER!

Over and out.
