A Smashing Splashing Summer Kick-Off Pool Party!

Okay, peeps.

We had the best pool party time this afternoon, in honor of the end of the school year/summer launch, and the vibe for three hours was pretty much this:

My body and brain are both weary after all the fun, but I’m so glad we threw caution to the wind and pulled off this get-together, with less than a week to rally friends.

The idea began to germinate last weekend when I busted out our June calendar (yes, a physical, on-paper calendar), and kind of wanted to cry over how much we have going on this coming month, ha.

I think I’d built up the summer launch as this great finish line before a downshift in busyness, but…I just don’t think that’s going to pan out!

Which meant it felt like a now-or-never situation to try and gather as many friends in one place, at one time, before everyone scattered with varying schedules and travel for the next two months.

Now.

My intention is to host one special get-together this summer for each of my three crazy kiddos and their corresponding friends, but I decided to launch with Chica for a couple of reasons:

Her birthday is coming up in less than a month, and it’s always so close to July 4th that it’s notoriously difficult to get all her peeps together. So this felt a bit like a just-in-case failsafe, should everyone be unavailable on her actual bday.

And, second: Chica just slayed her first year of middle school and put in such a stinking boatload of effort and grace that I thought she deserved a major celebration!

I can’t believe we managed to pull it off, but we got her entire group of eight closest buddies together—plus a couple of siblings (and Chicklet and Little Man, of course!), and it was nothing but joy, splashing, joy.

The kiddos were happy, silly, and ready to blow off some steam!

And eat snacks. Alllllllll the snacks.

We lucked out with the best weather: warm, but with some cloud cover before storms are set to roll in over the next few days.

Honestly, it was just the perfect weather to be sitting out there and visiting with some of my Mama friends who were able to stop by, as well.

It’s no secret that our backyard—and whole dang house/property—has been a constant work in progress and labor of love for the past five years.

But it feels like the turf has taken our joy of the backyard to a whole new level, and that the yard might finally be living its best—and most enjoyable/useful!—summer life. :)

I’m so grateful for the success of the get-together, and the memories that were made. And I suppose I should give thanks for the annoying half day of school that made this all possible, ha.

Only one more (half!) day left before summer freedom!!

Happy Last Day of School 2024 Eve, peeps!

Over and out.
