Mosaic Coaster Project!

Okay, peeps.

Can you tell that we’ve been stress crafting as a way to both decompress and grasp at these final weeks of summer???

It’s a thing.

It’s been happening.

I have HIGH HOPES of tackling a slew of backlogged posts in the next couple of days, but…best laid plans, amiright???

Today, we juggled a hysterical number of appointments and commitments, and, most of them, before noon. So, for now, I’ll take what I can get and post what I can!

Please enjoy these beautiful mosaic coasters that we actually made prior to our felt butterflies (see last post), while we were streaming church this past rainy Sunday.

When we snagged this project a while back, I didn’t even realize it was specific to Ramadan. I just thought the coasters were lovely, and I’ve been wanting to tackle a mosaic project for some time.

Ironically, the day after we completed the project, I had a dear friend over to the house who happens to be Muslim, and we jointly looked up a bit about the significance of the coasters’ shape. My friend knew that certain symmetry features prominently throughout design elements within the Muslim religion, and it turns out this particular shape represents hope. I love that. :)

But back to the actual making of the coasters…

I launched by getting a bit messy with my glue for the mosaic pieces:

And then my kiddos were far smarter in their precision, ha. Perhaps the students have become the masters.

They have all been so sweetly enthusiastic about our crafting, of late. Just a reminder that we have so little time for it these days, but it’s always appreciated.

After we got the pieces all glued down, we let them set overnight, and then, when there was time, we started the cement process.

After reading a lot of very scary disclaimers about the dangers of inhaling the cement, I decided to tackle this bit myself without risking the kiddos, ha.

I did nice, thorough costs on the coasters and then let them set for a couple hours while we tackled errands…

And then gently wiped up the excess with a wet sponge…

They turned out so well. :)

Happy smiles, happy kiddos.

I think we’re wrapping up our summer crafts and trying to tackle just a couple more engineering Crunch Labs before school starts.

It hurts me that we don’t have more time for all of this, but I just remind myself that we have to make the most of the time we do have for projects, and I’m already mulling over fun Halloween ideas for this year. ;)

Happy Saturday, peeps!

Over and out.
