Field Trip (Quality) Time

Okay, peeps.

You see this beloved daughter o’ mine??? (The human one, not the fur one).

Welp.

That beloved daughter o’ mine has been down and out for nearly a full week. The virus that plagued her has been slow to ease up entirely.

Though she’s been back at school for the past two days, she’s definitely low on stamina and ready for another weekend of recovery. And her poor nose could use some TLC, given its raw state. :(

I’m so grateful she’s through the worst, but, looking back, the signs of impending illness were totally there, days prior to the onset of fever.

Let’s go as far back as 14 days ago, when I was sick, sick, SICK with my stomach virus. I lost a few solid days that I really can’t recall very well, but I clearly remember coming out of it about 10 days ago, to Chicklet’s great concern that I recover enough to chaperone her field trip that she’d been looking forward to for ages.

I barely pulled it together in time (this was last Wednesday), but I clearly remember looking at the hubby the night before and telling him I had a Mama Gut Feeling that Chicklet was getting sick.

I mean, look at these eyes of hers on the day of the field trip:

I’m so glad her germs held off another 24 hours because it would have been devastating to miss quality time together.

It really struck me as I was looking at the whole gaggle of 5th graders that we’re nearing this graduation milestone of hers at warp speed.

You’d think I’d be prepared, since we’ve been through it once before, but there’s something a bit harder about knowing yet another child of yours is aging up and out of elementary school. I mean, I have far more field trips behind me than before me.

I’ve shared at length about the peace I have with this aging process, given how in-the-weeds I’ve been for these beautiful years, but it’s still bittersweet. And I think that sentiment—plus the heinous illness I’d just made it through—made me enjoy and appreciate this particular round of chaperoning just a bit more.

Plus, I had such a sweet trio of girls to look after. :)

I love, love, love my Chicklet so much, and it filled my cup to spend this sweet time together last week.

If only it hadn’t been another tricky sort of germy, migraine-y week and I would have been able to post sooner. Oye.

Hoping for some more catch-up posts this weekend, peeps.

Over and out.
