Man, was it a fantastic, whirlwind weekend, but I missed my family so much that I actually returned a tad early, ha.
The original plan was a fast-and-furious 48 hours in NYC, with all of us arriving by midday on Friday, and flying back out on Sunday, late afternoon/evening.
That’s what Nanna and older bro and his hubby booked for their flights. However…my flights were a bit tricky with nothing direct (like I had for my arrival) or just terrible times or connections. So, when I booked things back in October, I decided to stay overnight on Sunday (sad and alone, ha) and fly out on a direct flight around noon Monday.
But that just wasn’t mentally okay by me!
When the time came for everyone else to pack up and lock and load their suitcases following our morning Rockettes show, I started getting twitchy enough that I knew I’d literally be crawling out of my skin to get back to my fam and it would be torture to wait until the following afternoon—with no real reason for the delay, beyond slightly yuckier flights.
So I whipped into a change-my-flights frenzy, threw my stuff into my suitcase within five minutes, bailed (unfortunately) on the high tea that would have been our final event together, and raced to the airport.
In the end, we ALL made it home (to Maine, to Oklahoma, and to Texas, respectively) within an hour of one another (around 9 pm CST), and I’m soooooo glad I made the last-minute decision.
I slept in my own bed! With the hubby! And snuggled with Coda puppy! Sadly, the kiddos were already asleep, due to an hour delay and a bumped flight for my whirlwind changeup, but it was GLORIOUS to snuggle my babies awake this morning and be here and home all day.
Lesson learned: I really, really can’t be away from my fam for longer than 48 hours.
Call me sad or co-dependent or crazy, and I’m A-okay with that.
Beyond this trip, I’ve been away from them, solo, exactly twice in a lucky almost-thirteen years: for my grandmother’s funeral, and a quick, 48-hours to see Godmother Lisa in 2019. So I’m pretty impressed that I was mentally rock solid for 48 hours before the twitchies set in, tehe.
The Rockettes show was AMAZING!!! I’ve only seen them one other time, and they were touring, so it wasn’t in Radio City Music Hall. The show was sooooo stimulating and visually spectacular, and I was blown away by the synchronicity of their dancing. Every foot, every arm, every turn and line…perfection.
Over the next few days I’ll tackle a few final thoughts on the trip as a whole, but for now, enjoy these handful of pics from yesterday!
Amazing memories. Amazing season to spend a whirlwind two days in New York. Grateful for all of it—and, to be HOME.
More mañana, peeps’
Over and out.
