Summer Bucket List: Walk to Starbucks!

Well, peeps.

We’re post-Memorial Day, now, and starting the looooong stretch of summer that’s always equal parts fantastic and terrifying!

My kiddos are currently upstairs raucously playing video games together and I can both delight in their giggles, cackles and screams, and mourn the silence that won’t exist in this house for the next 10 weeks. The two are not mutually exclusive.

But I’d like to think that there are plenty of positives to counteract the negatives of summer, and those positives always feel plentiful during this first full week, when we really take time to enjoy things we’d never manage during the school year.

Again, I swear I’ll share a larger Summer Intentions post, soon, but for now, I’ll say that we’re crossing a lot of our odds and ends Bucket List items off, before other scheduled events start filling up some of our time.

And since we knew the weather was cooling just a slight bit today, after last night’s storms, we decided we wanted to tackle something we’ve wanted to do for a long time…

Walk to Starbucks!

Our neighborhood is at the top of a ridge, and down the street, at the nearest intersection, is a Starbucks.

Last year, the city finally completed one missing section of sidewalk leading from here to there, and since that time, it’s been a fun plan of ours to walk there and back. :)

For this first jaunt, as we learned the process and dealt with the cars, we decided to leave Coda girl at home, but I foresee this being a fun adventure to tackle again, perhaps with her, perhaps come Fall.

We started our timer (and mileage tracker on Chica’s watch) the second we stepped from our driveway on to the main street of our neighborhood…

And kept on going once we reached the front entrance to the neighborhood…

Yonder! Down that hill!

In total, it was just a 26.5 minute, 1.2 mile walk to get there. Then we paused to enjoy some breakfast and yummy beverages, which definitely helped with the uphill climb, back.

The return trip was slightly longer, at 28.5 minutes, and in total, we logged just shy of 2.5 miles.

For little more than an hour on a hot but tolerable morning, it was a really lovely outing.

We made it home, the kiddos showered up and returned to their pajamas for the day and other fun activities.

Not gonna lie…I wasn’t thrilled to immediately log another mile of walking before all was said and done, so Coda could get her morning walk, too, but…more dessert for me, later?

Appropriate, considering we’re actually balking a cake right now!

Okay, peeps.

More, later!

Over and out.
