Thank the heavens--we had a happy girl again today!
Still a little congested, but far, far better than yesterday. So we'll stick with the saline drops, aspirator and humidifier for a few days and hope that the worst has passed!
But before we officially move on from the under-the-weather-ness, I wanted to take the opportunity to brag on my little munchkin, where bragging is due. And that's in regards to her bedtime routine.
The last I posted about the sleep training, things we very painful and very hit and miss, but now three weeks post crib transition, and two weeks post a handful of tough-love bedtimes, I'm so proud to report that Baby Girl has learned to consistently put herself down for the night. Every night, we follow the same schedule of bath, feed, cuddle, song, prayer (sometimes book) and then I put her down in her crib, still awake, and she gets herself to sleep.
Now, that's not to say that she goes in the crib and immediately shuts her eyes with a peaceful, angelic smile on her face. Ooooh, no. Instead, she keeps her head on a hilarious swivel to check out her surroundings, flails her arms and legs, makes some squeaks--basically anything to pass some time in there on her own before she gives in. And sometimes it takes her an hour. No joke. But she always gets the job done, and it's very rare that she actually cries at all. Even last night, after a day of not feeling well, she went down like a champ without crying, and got herself to sleep in half an hour.
I can't tell you how nice it is for the hubby and I to have some time together in the evening, and I truly believe that Baby Girl is better off now, given her new routine. She sleeps more on the whole, she's better able to entertain herself for a stint during the day, and she's slightly less dependent on her beloved pacifier, since she knows when it falls out at night in her crib, she won't be getting it back. It was a tough, tough few nights to get to this point, full of many, many moments where the hubby and I felt like horrible parents, but I feel like it was worth it.
Now...if only the rest of the night was a bit more consistent--ha. When she first goes down, she's generally staying asleep for about five hours before waking to feed (unfortunately, I'm still awake for two or three of those hours). But after that, it's anyone's guess. I suppose that's to be expected for her age and weight. But to be honest, I'm so thrilled with her progress so far, I know the rest will come in time, so I'm not sweatin' it too much.
