She's proven to be such a mover and shaker in there that I'm happy about my decision to give it the heave ho--at least until she's a little older and has improved fine motor skills. But I just couldn't stare at that barren crib any longer without figuring out some way to add a little bit 'o flare.
My number one concern when brainstorming was to make it functional when it came time to change the crib sheet, 'cause that was one thing the bumper was not. Having to untie and retie that bugger in about a thousand different places was a definite pain. So I needed easy. And cheap. Cheap and easy. (Get your minds outta the gutter).
I hemmed and hawed for some time, thinking through a few ideas, and then inspiration struck one day when I ordered a couple of adorable headbands for Baby Girl from my cousin's fiancee's Etsy page (check them out, they're super cute: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MallarysBands).

I thought they'd be the perfect look and feel for the room, as they're feminine but not too cutesy. And I was able to make them out of the same fabric that the bumper was made from. So it was a win/win in terms of color coordination.

I attached them to the crib rails with velcro so I can just whip them off whenever I change the sheet.
They're not the fanciest things in the world, but they keep my eye from looking at the crib and wanting to cry over its barrenness.
My mind is already churning about clusters of them that I could make if I really wanted to put more effort into it. Perhaps some solid colors to throw into the mix. In various sizes. Could be fun.
If they'll make Baby Girl smile (see below) like she does at the flowers on the wall vine, then I'll make a million of them :)
Seriously--I didn't do a thing to elicit that smile. She just looks at her wall and cracks herself up.
Crazy kid.
