Stepping Stone Project!

Awhile back, I picked up this nifty stepping stone kit at Walmart and tucked it away for the right day...which turned out to be yesterday!

Of course, I knew it would have to be a two-day project, since the clay had to be mixed and then left alone to set in the mold overnight, but I wanted to get things going, so we dove in.

The clay was a bit messy, so I did that bit and then let Chica carefully place the jewels in the bottom. She was a pro at pressing just enough to get them wedged in there but not submerged:

(I should pass this shot off as a thumbs-up move but she was just holding her finger so I could wipe off some clay.)

As soon as all the jewels were placed, we set it aside and let it be overnight. I thought it might be a little tricky getting it out of the mold, but nope. Super duper easy peasy.

Here are the jewels now set in the bottom...

And here's the lovely design on top...

We busted out the paint, put on our awesomesauce Doc McStuffins headband that rides low on the forehead for an '80s vibe, and got to work:

Excellent painting form...

And sweet Chicklet hung close by and kept a watch on the spare paint brushes:

Eventually, we ditched the headband as we systematically worked through all the paint colors...

And Chica did such a good job with it:

Hi, sweet baby (*waves).

Chica just luuuuvs painting anything, so this was right up her alley.

The kit came with enough clay for three more stones, so there will be more to come. I think next time we'll even put handprints or footprints on the bottom, now that we know how long it takes to firm up a bit.

And last, but not least, to add a bit of randomness to the post, enjoy this shot of a baby, a toddler, a turtle and a frog.

Love our projects and our brushes with nature :)

Happy Thursday, peeps!
