Chicklet’s 2nd Grade Musical Performance!

Well, peeps.

Our Chicklet had a banner night last night—participating in her adorable, ocean-themed 2nd grade musical performance! Woohoo!

I shared her costume selection—a freaking adorable pink seahorse number in a post last week:

And last night, it was so fun to see it all in action. :)

And…Chicklet even took on a major challenge that made me SO darn proud!

One of her little classmates, who had a speaking part, got sick and couldn’t perform. So at the last minute, the music teacher reached out to see if Chicklet would be willing to step in, and she jumped in with both feet, no hesitation!

She only had a brief five minutes of fear over memorizing four difficult and very fast lines (that had to be spoken in beat to the song). But she powered through, spent the evening before the performance doing some solid memorization work, and didn’t bat an eye over performing the next morning for the entire school—and again that night for us parents!

I adore her amazing can-do spirit. She is a unicorn of a child and a gift that makes my heart burst every day, and it was a JOY to watch her and all of her adorable little school friends and classmates.

Swing your partner once or twice.

Havin’ a round-up’s mighty nice.

Other way back from where you brought her.

Doin’ a square dance under water!

It’s an absolute privilege to see the smile on her face when she’s proud of a job well done. And we showered her with love and praise and enjoyed a yummy meal out afterward.

For context, it’s sooooo strange to think back to Chica’s 2nd grade musical performance.

It took place just a few short days before Spring Break in 2020. And I’m sure you all can do the math and guess what happened mere days later.

At the musical performance, I spoke with a mom friend who’d just canceled a family trip abroad thanks to this novel thing called the coronavirus. And I remember thinking that was overly-cautious but to each their own.

Two short weeks later, the whole country was in lockdown.

Crazy.

Especially as it relates to my kiddos, I’ve marked so many milestones based on various stages of the pandemic over the past two years. It will be fascinating someday to hear thoughts and memories from their perspective, once they’re old enough to look back in that way.

In total, it’s been a pretty crazy-busy week on our end, and I’m hoping to pump the brakes a bit tomorrow.

Looking forward to some SLEEP, and fresh start mañana.

Happy Hump Day, peeps!

Over and out.
