At the start of summer break—less than a month ago!—I shared a post of our summer intentions, and chief among them in the reading category: finishing some Harry reading!
Welp. Chicklet and I finished the second book two weeks ago—woohoo!—and had a really fun week of quality time and magical moments together.
And now, TODAY, Chica and I finished THE SIXTH BOOK! Gahhhhhhh!
Honest to goodness, heading into the summer, I thought it was going to be a stretch for us to finish this book…by August!
But, lo and behold, somehow in the past week, we managed to read more than 200 pages together and completely finish the dang thing!
CRAZY!
Part of the luck in this endeavor was due to my kiddos collectively hitting a bit of a wall. We’ve been running and gunning a lot this summer, and we’re all a bit weary, to be honest. So last night, when my crazies asked for a pajama day today, I was more than happy to acquiesce.

All. Day. Long.
We just luxuriated in a beautiful down day—and the weather even cooperated with some glorious cloud cover in the morning that brook our triple digit temperatures (whew!).
Alas…while they were lounging, I spent HOURS busting my hump today. Cleaning, churning the laundry, collecting items for donation, PURGING the playroom until it was so clean it felt empty, and even cleaning windows! Gah! All things I’d hoped to tackle before the kiddos were home for the summer, and there’s still another couple of days’ worth of stuff to be done, but…life.
But look at the clean playroom!

Toward late afternoon, when my back felt broken and my twins/not twins were hunkered downstairs (still) watching yet another movie, Chica and I squirreled away to finish the final two chapters of the sixth book. :)
As any Harry lover will know: the sixth book is major (I mean, aren’t they all?) and ends with some monumental events, so we’ll be diving into the seventh and final book, STAT.
Chica could veer off on her own and have the thing finished in a week, and know EVERYTHING about the world of Harry. Alas…she wants to finish the series out as we began four years ago: out loud, together. And who am I to complain??? ;)
So…more reading to come!
Though with the girlies having completed a Harry each this summer, I’m eager to shift my attention on that front to Little Man! We’re still plugging away on the second book!
Meanwhile, according to our custom, Chica gets to watch the movie after completing the book, so the cinematic fun has begun! It usually takes us a couple of nights since the movies are long, and we typically have to split them up, but it’s time well spent!
So, yay, for another milestone day—and a summer intention accomplished. :)
